Two books I read this summer that were really good were Guitar: An American Life by Tim Brooks and The Wild Trees by Richard Preston.

The book about guitars is not a how to play but a history of the guitar covering everyone from the Beatles to Django Reinhardt. It also tells about the birth of a beautiful guitar for the author; a progress report as such.

The other book, The Wild Trees, is about the redwood trees and the climbers who study them. If you have ever seen the movie on IFC about Butterfly Julia Hill, Earth First, and Luna you would enjoy this book.

Has anyone else read these? They are really good.
