it's your friggin eyes over marks on something and it can create ANYTHING aren't you fucking amazed?! It blows my mind, how we read all that, AND how important books are to us and our history.
like I have seen people incredibly just, enveloped in book.(lotr geeks lol), like its just characters on paper! but it's So much more!

    Hi,
That's the beauty of the imagination. We can take what are essentially a whole lot of words & make them into whatever we want, through them we can enter whole new worlds of our own creation, add whatever emotion, meaning, interpretation, scenery - everything - to it. Our ability to visualise, imagine, wonder, gives us incredible freedom to let our minds run wild...

yes its amazing how many realities we can create!

    the possibilities are endless!

however 'unreal' some fiction may pieces, you brain can still concieve those ideas that would probably never actually happen!

so in that sense, it is very real!

I've thought that from time to time too...the concept of reading is amazing and then trying to learn another language to be able to comprehend another set of marks on pages, is just so weird yet awesome...def mind blowing

exactly! words can be so powerful. there's something so amazing about words on paper. Whenever I get hold of a book, it's hard for me to let it go.

What I find even more amazing is that we actually understand those weird scribbles, around the world, I mean, who there's an agglomeration of nondescript squiggles, but everyone knowing the language it's written in knows what it means...

You know, I remember reading a short story about the exact same thing. It was about a boy from the computerized future, who plans inventing a "computer" that can be activated by only setting your eyes on it, and project all kinds of images and situations. That is, he re-invented the book.

you know, now that you mention it, reading is a pretty screwed up kinda thing when you think about it. i mean, the concept of language in general is pretty intense but wnen you think that these symbols represent complex shapes and ideas and thoughts and emotions. so many things can be shared between people because of language. i am taking psychology in university (or at least i was this past year) and we studied a lot about language. a lot of people believe that language is a large part of what distinguishes us from higher apes. not just language but writing and the ability to use complex symbols to convey emotions, threads, thoughts, feelings, ect.

it is really neat to think about though!

One thing I love about books is that they can be so different for different people.

In a movie, someone tels you how the people and the scenery look.
On a cassette/CD you are told how they sound... While reading a book you can imagine EVERYTHING. And it might even change when you read it for the second time.

Yes, writing and reading is a miracle... One of my fave things to rant about. ;)

I thought about this once, but now that you bring it up... it IS pretty amazing. Even more amazing that we can CREATE these lines and squiggles and convey exactly what we want to say to other people... like I'm doing right now. Freaky.

How easy it is, if I want to put the image of a brown dog in your minds, there, I've done it... wow.

I feel so lucky to have learned the wonderful art of language.

have you uploaded your pics onto web space so they have a URL which you can then use in your posts.

Photobucket is quick, free, easy and they allow hotlinking...

http://photobucket.com/ (sorry if you know the above already) :D
