Great 1970s Cult classic. Nine guys-No weapons-journey from their Coney Island turf across New York to take part in the biggest gang enclave ever. The Big Meeting is addressed by the leaders of the citys biggest Gang-the Riffs,"We can take this city,Suckers,if you can count...". A shot rings out and before he gets the chance to explain the great plan, Sirus is dead. Suddenly Cops arrive in force, confusion & pandamonium as the Gangs try to break out & avoid arrest. In the chaos, the the Warriors are wrongly blamed for the assasination. Every Gang in the City are out to get the Warriors. The movie becomes a chase across the New York nightscape, punctuated by fights as the 'Armies of the night' close in to block the Warriors escape home to Coney. Simple story well told.
The Warriors is one of my favorite movies. I first saw it in my teens on Joe Bob Brigg's Monstervision. So glad I stayed up late for that one!
great movie....I remember there was fights at many theaters because people came out of the movie looking to fight...it was all over the news about inciting violence in patrons
A few months ago they held a 40th reunion in Atlantic City, NJ for the cast and crew, called it "The Last Subway Ride". Didn't know about it until after the fact - bummer, 'cuz I would have liked to go.
I think my favorite scene is the chase with the baseball losers. I think the younger darkish guy is really cute too, he tries to stay out of trouble and just wants to get home.
sometimes when I have two empty bottles I put my fingers in them and do the "Warriors come out to plaaaaay".. the gf gets creeped out by it.
My favorite scene was the speech given by Cyrus “Can you dig it” I thought Cleon was wasted too early” also, Mercedes Ruehl (who played the policewoman) was hot. Hotwater
Sixty. Thousand. Soldiers... Now there ain't but twenty thousand police in the whole town! Can you dig it! Anybody Killas debut rap album was entitled Hatchet Warrior. It used clips from the movie and set the tone of the album with a theme about gangs and neighbourhoods etc. It finished off with a cover of "in the city". I always liked the cd because it was about the warriors. The anybody killa himself is Native American so he probably liked it a lot. :d
Its a great movie they really was the best gang I'm Batman and I wouldn't mess with them But they are the good guys
