The War on Poppies begins

Trump's plan to destroy poppy fields has begun. Expect a sharp rise in a whole class of drugs both legal and illicit. They're using B-52 bombers, of all things.

And why do we care if it's in Afghan land?
Maybe if the Taliban can't make drugs to use then they'll put up a decent fight instead of their Rambo tactics.

 

If they can't make opium, they can't fund their jihad.

This is actually a good thing.

 

This will backfire. pretty much any and all US intervention in the Middle East backfires eventually

Not happening. Perhaps Trump is not aware but people with more power then him in the US government profit from the drug trade. The fields will remain. They will make sure to photograph the destruction of a few. Same as drugs crossing the Mexican border. Most gets here but there is always a so called "major bust" that gets media coverage. The amount of drugs will appear to be enough to cripple the trade to the public. It's a drop in the bucket.
