Like MLK, Jr. said, the law can't changed people's hearts, but it can restrain the heartless. You change people's hearts by leading by example. And if they are hurting someone, you stop them by whatever means are ultimately necessary. I never voted for George W. Bush. But in the War in Afghanistan in 2001 and the Second Gulf War in 2003 he invaded radical Muslim countries because they were hurting their own people. I never liked George W. Bush and frankly I was miffed he became so popular after 9/11 with those two wars. But I supported those wars. Because, what right do we have to impose our beliefs on others? Many of my fellow liberals asked then. Well, a lot of right I'd say. When they are guilty of terrible human rights abuses. A lot, again I'd say.
I wasn't aware that G.W. Bush invaded Afghanistan because of the Taliban's "terrible human rights abuses". I thought it was for providing a safe haven for al-Qaeda? And the Taliban is back in power, continuing their human rights abuses. Were we wrong to pull out? Should we go back in?
