I can see where people are coming from when they say they didnt enjoy the film because they were expecting something that was scarier. Personaly, I thought the end was presented pretty poorly but I really liked the idea behind it, (though I've aleady read a book that had bassicaly the same twist), so it was so-so.

yeah i agree i was disappointed in the ending, but i did like the movie other than that, because i have a difficult time handling scary movies so this was good and mild for me.

Aw, but you guys, I loved Noah! Even though he was mentally challenged and he went kinda crazy, I loved him soooo much and Adrien Brody, I love him. lol. So I was entirely (well almost) satisfied. I would see it again.

O_O Am I the only one who liked the movie?

I thought it was very different and thought provoking, even if it wasn't as scary as the trailer implied. I walked out of the theatre just thinking, about how they all tried to go back to simpler times because of what had happened to them, and how ironic that they were sheltering someone who caused some of those problems in the outside world, about using scare tactics to make the world a better place. . .The score was good, the direction was artisticly rough, and the acting was top rate. The only fault I've noticed was that it wasn't as scary as I had expected it to be.

i agree with turtle, i thought the film was amazing. id have to agree with the trailer being a little misleading, but i think it's mainly just that people expect shamalyans [sp] movies to be scary right away. i thought the beginning was the best part, the love story was really well acted. i do think that the end twist was a little bit hard to believe, because i doubt it could actually happen, but it was still really enjoyable.

and am i alone in thinking bryce dallas howard is beautiful?

I thought it was a good Idea for a movie, but I was expecting a scary movie. Once guy told her they were fake I got pissed, but then when it made it sound like the monsters were real again "There were legends of creatures in the woods" or something like that and the thing showed up, I thought it was good again. Then you find out it's the retard and it sucks again.

I was disappointed in the ending, though as I myself often say I would like to live in the 1800's rather than now, I could understand the motivation for trying to create the ultimate "safe" society. The creatures were IMHO lame.

Bryce Dallas Howard is very talented and so is Adrien Brody. Cherry Jones is also a minor personal favorite (she was the cop in "Signs").

    There were some great performances.

I didn't expect a scary movie. I expected a weird twist at the end, and that's what I got because that is what Shymalan does. People who expected typical horror movies remind me of when my mother read Rosemary's Baby and got freaked out because she expected some sweet sappy little story about a woman and her adorable little child. "Uhhh, Mom, it's about some woman who gets knocked up by Satan and pops out a devil kid."

It's not out here until 20th August, and even then I'll have to wait till we come back from holiday. :(

It just not f*****g fair.

No idea what the twist is (so for the love of non specific diety don't tell). Seen the trailer and it looks cool.
I'm not a great fan of super scary movies, so that's good.
To be honest I'm only going to gawp at Joaquin Phoenix. :& :D

I really liked the movie. I was kinda glad that it wasn't that scary because I can't handle them all too well some times. I absolutely ADORED Noah, until he kinda, well, not to spoil it for anyone, did a few bad things.

Has anyone noticed that all of the second generation members of the Village (Noah, Ivy, etc.) had some sort of personality/physical oddity? Like Ivy was blind, Noah was mentally disabled, Ivy's sister's fiance refused to sit a certian way so he wouldn't mess up his shirt, Ivy's love interest had communication issues, Ivy's sister was really girlishly innocent. Not that any of this is bad, but isn't it odd how so many of the 2nd generation villagers had those ticks?

    I haven't seen it.
Do you mean kinda like how stupid "Signs" was? --

Aliens come all this way across interstellar space to attack us -- but when they get here, despite that incredible feat of navigation, they need to leave signs in cornfields to guide their personnel to where to attack?

And they neglect to find out that we have a lot of WATER here, which KILLS them on contact?! What were they going to do if it RAINED?!

"Signs" was so fuckin' stupid it HURT. Plus, it was like a religious proselytizing play with its "message." If "The Village" is anything similiar, it's got to suck too.

Didn't the same director do "The Sixth Sense"? How about in that movie, Bruce Willis doesn't know all along that he's a ghost -- until the very end. The thing is, all the other ghosts show the signs of what killed them, even though they don't know they're dead. Why didn't he show that he was gutshot the entire time? He was a "special" ghost??

Duh. I hate stupid moronic flaws that ruin movies.

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey

I havnt seen it yet but everyone I know that had saw it said it sucked horribly. The trailer made it look really good. I was hoping at some point to see it, glad that I didnt. It might be worth a rent someday.
