Way back in the day; there was VietNam. Being a poor country boy, I had little choice and joined the Navy. So I missed out on 4 years of America.

As I approach retirement, I have a plan. I collect mineral specs, rcoks and fossils. So once life calms, I wanna see all of this great land! I have designed a small camping trailer named 'The Paisley Palace' which I will begin this summer. And since it will be only myself and the cat; it will be pretty much self-contained.

With the ongoing price-gouging by the oil cartels, I may change schedules. Possible to drive as far as a tank will take me; then set-up for a week.

I loaded the sketch in the gallery: http://www.hipgallery.com/photopost2/uploads/43981/Palace.jpg

Hey man, sounds like an adventure! Your rig reminds me of the teardrop trailers that are so popular these days. They are really light weight and functional. Just basically a bed on wheels with a kitchen in the rear area.
Add yourself a battery, inverter, some led lights and a solar panel to charge the battery and you can dry camp for weeks. Just gotta haul some water in. I bought a little solar panel set up at harbour frieght, its only 45 watts, three panels, a control box and some cfl bulbs for 175 bucs. Great for my little casita camper.
    Be careful on the road...
    Peace & Hugs... Farmout :)

    Changes

After 34 years of marriage; it ended. It's been 5 years without a woman in my life, am I'm good with that.

I even gave it a try, but all I can find is 'needful'. I've been there, I don't need that shit anymore. I have the cat to cuddle; the grandkids to spoil, and myself to love.

I can't be content trying to take care of another that has needs. (big sigh)

It's hard to heal. When trust/truth is the hardest thing to find. When I offer my hand; it is not to pull me down, but to lift you up.

I tell them, I can be as soft as a kittens fur or as cold and hard as steel; they never listen. And I'm getting too old to explain it anymore. When she abandoned me, i swore that I would never remarry and no woman would find shelter under my roof. I softened some; but now I have been pushed back . . .reality sucks! But that is what life is about.

So I'll build the Palace and turn to the hiway; myself, the cay and my solitude.

    I'm good with it.

    (quote)

    Cry my memories away
They haunt me by night, honey
And they chase me by day
I think about what I left behind
A piece of my heart and a piece of my mind
    But still and all
They weren't enough to make you want to stay
    So I'll sing about you
    In the morning sun
    And I'll sing about you
    When my music's all done
    Then I'll smile
'Cause it feels good missin' ya

    Well, I'm back!

I retired Feb. 27, 2009 and getting prepared to hit the road in another week. While the planning on the trailer changed; it's all good. I found an older 15' camping trailer which I've stripped out for the road.

First travel will take 30 days and cover 9 states out west.

That sounds like a great time. Myself I have always wanted to paddle my kayak around the state of florida living off fish and wild foods. Documenting the destruction of the coastal habitats by greedy developers and government agencies like army corps of engineers. This was the plan but in 2005 my wife and I had a surprise a child after giving up 10 yrs earlier. So I packed up and moved my family to the mtns. This trip will be on hold and may never happen as my commitment is to raise my daughter away from crowds and noise. I hope when she is older to try but my health may not permit. So although a negative situation motivated you you have made a very positive choice to follow your heart. Much luck and Peace in your travels. Snowsurf:D

Finally tookoff in late June for 3 weeks thru Or, Ca, Nv, Az, Ut and Co. After many hard miles the 41 year old trailer began to fall apart from dryrot. Made it back home; tearing it down and will rebuild the Paisley Palace.

    The trip was great!!

    Good travels to you!

I have a friend who does this same exact thing. He calls himself a "desert gypsy". He wanders around, mostly in the West, in his 20-ft travel trailer. Those things are so cool. I've spent a night in it, and it's just like an apartment, only much smaller, obviously. He never stays in one place more than a two or three weeks, and every few months he turns up back home here.

I hope you're able to solve your difficulties with your trailer :)
