http://www.indianexpress.com/news/After-N-Korea-threat--South--US-raise-military-alert-level/467601 TOKYO, May 27 -- North Korea vowed Wednesday to attack South Korea if ships from the North are searched as part a U.S.-led effort to stop vessels suspected of carrying missiles or weapons of mass destruction. It also declared that the truce that ended the Korean War in 1953 was no longer valid. Whats everyone's opinions on this? War, war never changes... :toetap05:
SEOUL, South Korea – Former South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun — whose hard-won reputation as a corruption fighter was tarnished by bribery allegations that drew in his family and closest associates — jumped to his death Saturday while hiking in the mountains behind his rural home. He was 62. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090523/ap_on_re_as/as_skorea_obit_roh I wonder if there's a connection? http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=364429
All other nations should block telephone and internet transmissions to and from North Korea. North Korea has already pulled out of the six country talks, so we'd just be pushing that isolation process further. Imagine how it would feel if you, a North Korean, try to PING or send e-mail to someone and you get a little message 'server not responding', anywhere in the world. I don't know how many countries have blockaded shipment of strategic goods to North Korea, but it's about time China did so. The official Russian news agency, Tass, contains the following: MOSCOW, May 27 (Itar-Tass) - The new UN resolution on North Korea will contain sanctions, a source at the Russian Foreign Ministry told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. "The resolution is likely to be sanction-like," the diplomat said, "strenuous work is underway at the UN Security Council." On May 25, 2009, North Korea officially announced a second nuclear test. On October 9, 2006, North Korea announced the first nuclear test, which it said was successful. In response, the UN Security council adopted resolution 1718 on October 14, which envisioned sanctions aimed at the elimination of the missile and nuclear potential of North Korea. The document slapped a ban on any supplies, sales or transfer of conventional military equipment and armaments to North Korea, and any materials, equipment, products or technologies which might be used by North Korea in its is programs to create weapons of mass destruction. The UN Security Council demanded that North Korea stop exports of all the above products, and that all UN members freeze the funds or other financial assets and economic resources involved in the implementation of these North Korean programs. A full blockade of all goods is possible, if China is on-side. I'm sure North Korea needs a variety of things such as communications equipment to keep its phones working, and I understand China but not South Korea imports food. Let them eat uranium.
Nothing will happen, North Korea is insane, but not stupid. Their military is full of crap, 1950's submarine, T-34 tanks still, they have almost no internal resources of fuel, they'd last about 4 minutes in a war.
hahah Well it might be hard to track a turd in the water.. Could sneak one out, and do some damage.. Possible target oil tanker, cargo ship??
Didn't Bush in October of last year remove North Korea from the list of terrorist countries? Why was that? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27109746/ Axis of evil, smoke him out...we are definitely safer aren't we? We lost the last Korean war I don't think with economy the way it is and our military stretched to the breaking point that we are in any position to create a new war.
Doubt it. If anyone is going to control North Korea it's going to be China. And I don't think they will have to do it militarily. They hold the cards and they will reign them in. The US is no position to do anything in that area.
China doesn't even want North Korea. China neither wants a nuclear Korea on it's ass and wants no business of being inside North Korea, North Korea is filled with starving peasants and China still has enough of their own to deal with.
Funny isn't we had the axis of evil but last October we removed North Korea, we were going to smoke out Bin Laden...but Bush and Cheney decided he wasn't worth following? Torture made us safer? All these things made us safer?
Only if there are soldiers willing to fight. Can you have a war if no one comes to fight? If we wait for Bush and Cheney's kids and grandkids to fight the good fight we won't have anymore wars.

Does that mean that economically we are placed to wage war? If so I would think while they were listed as part of the axis of evil we would have done it under Bush. But like going after Bin Laden we didn't. And now we can't. If you want your sons, daughters and grandchildren to do this well I wonder how we are going to fund it.
My dad and my uncles were called into the war in Korea right after the war in the pacific. Luckily none of them were lost then, but many were. I don't think this is something we should consider. And today this is an army of enlistees not draftees. Can we afford it? Do we want to?
lmao. I just came from korea not to long ago. point 1: Both N and S korea WANT to be one korea. point 2: S Korea is now ready for a war. I know this for a fact because I worked with them a lot. (they have ALL of their northern mountains dug out and bunked already, comms are up, the unit I was with has 16 of the newest artilery. Good airbases in the south.) All males over 18 have to serve 2 years in the army. There are a SHIT load of them... Point 3: America (actually, its congressmen) has to vote to wage war now... Do YOU want me to go fight in korea? Don't think N. Korea doesn't have a badass army. It is thought that camp hovey/casey(connected, I was at hovey) would merely be a speed bump so other forces could get there. You can see them display their 'power' from the DMZ... They have a LOT of VERY WELL TRAINED troops. Motivation can mean a lot in the army(vietnam?). Let me tell you, americans soldiers are not motivated right now. I don't see this happening anytime soon. Plus, once the airforce got ready it would be over quick.
Let's see... Who do i believe? A report/opinion from Wiki? Or an American that was just there, and can report on actual conditions, atmosphere, and facts of life for folks living there? Hmmm... Yeah, i think i'll let the codemeister's take be the one i base my opinions on. :sifone:
