Whether you like John or not you'll love this movie. (At least I did.) It really shed some light on the Nixon administration to me as well as the hippy movement of the 60's and 70's. Go rent or buy and let me know what you think!
I'm a huge Beatles/Lennon fan, and I thought the film was just ok. I can't say I learned that much that I didn't know already - basically that the US gov't gave Lennon hell throughout the 70's. But, that was just me. The premise of the film is good and it's definitely worth checking out if you're a big Beatles/Lennon fan simply because it exists, but I think there's better stuff out there. As an aside, that is an amazingly beautiful picture of Yoko in your signature. I'm not sure I've ever seen her so radiant
i agree with stayloose.. its great for all lennon fans, but i heard it all before and i felt that it was nothing new for me. i guess it was all too political for me. bleh.
i thought it was great, actually i just finished watching it was was about to start a thread on it. even if you've heard it all before, the context in which they present the information is really great. along with the interviews of political/social activists, government officials, news reporters, it's a great piece of work and it's not like most movies of it's genre. i picked it out because i thought it would be a good ol' biography telling about his childhood, his musical career, and his assassination but it wasn't that at all, i found it very insightful and definately worth owning.
i watched it a couple months ago...i thought it was prety good - yea i know most of the stuff alrady, but i loved the interviews and the footage they showed. john and yoko looked so cute. i thought it was great and it makes me want to start a movement jo0hn lennon was great. it was so long tho, the movie!
im goin to buy that dvd, because ive been wanting to watch it so bad, im a huge john lennon fan. long live john lennon!
im rewatching it. its an interesting topic in general. i mean when you mention john lennon, everybody wants to see it or hear about it. thats not a bad thing. overall its an interesting documentary, i enjoyed it after it being my third time watching it. at first i wasnt too sure, as i stated in my other reply earlier. john lennon is a creative genius as it was said in the movie. gotta love him!
I finally rented it over the weekend. I didn't really care about the politics embedded in it - I only really rented it to watch the old footage of John. I was pleased with the footage. The end was so sad, though... I mean, I knew it was coming, but it was just so sad.
The topic interests me, the Nixon administration and whatnot...I am interested in John, also, of course. I do think from everything I've read that he was an extremely troubled man, although a brilliant one. Unfortunately, the DVD is a little expensive just for a movie, I think...I might ask for it for the holidays.
I own it. There's so many different things i could say about it... Overall, i think its a great movie. As others have said, most of the stuff I already knew about to begin with, but for people who don't know a lot about John and what he did, this would be an excellent resource for information. I honestly can't watch the movie without crying. John is my favorite person ever, and he's such so amazing. And this movie definitely brings that out. Another thing, before i saw the movie, i sort of always had a grudge on Yoko, but, after watching how they interacted, after seeing how he just lit up every time he was with her, I started to really see the love they had for each other. It was beautiful. Anyways, i definitely recommend this movie to everyone. Not just Beatles/John fans, but to everyone. It's a great movie, and i found it very interesting.
