Yes, President Obama was born in the USA, in Hawaii, as he has stated all along. A number of people have verified this by going down to the Vital Records dept. and requesting a look at his entry in their "index".

Obama himself released a copy of his "certification of live birth", which contains a bit more info.

However the REAL reason why there is controversy is due to Hawaii's strict privacy law which prohibits anyone from seeing the "long-form" birth certificate which contains more info about the doctor who attended the birth and of course OBAMA'S PARENTS...

What I've never seen in print ANYWHERE is what else is contained in that long form. Even Obama cannot request a copy of it, that's how private it is (gov't property after all is private!).

Here is what else the long form usually contains...

    Parents Birthplace and Religion.

That is what Obama does not want people to see, even though the information is already public.

    Why?

Because it will show that Obama's father was born in Kenya and was a Muslim. And according to Muslim law, Obama himself must be a muslim if his father was. Of course Obama is now a Christian and does not profess to be a Muslim.

Yet if that long-form birth certificate were ever made public it might lead people to believe he is a Muslim, hence why the Republicans have made such an issue about it, and why many believe Obama is a muslim.

BTW, for a Muslim to renounce his religion is one of the worst insults to Islam, and I believe the penalty for such an act is death...

So the controversy over his birth is fabricated, yet hides an important point. According to Muslim law, Obama is a Muslim, and his renouncing that faith means he has been a very bad Muslim... So releasing the info on his long-form birth certificate can't help but make matters worse.

It amazes me that so many people are still perpetuating this myth that Obama is not an American citizen. It takes literally less than 10 minutes to verify that he was indeed born in the state of Hawaii. I did a quick google search a while back and found a copy of his birth certificate. It took me two minutes. The fact that so many people still believe he's not an American citizen just goes to show how intellectually lazy people have gotten. They would rather be spoon-fed some idea rather than do a little research to verify facts or disprove myths on their own.

    Ugh.

He finally made it available, which only leaves the question of why such a simple task took so long to do when it could have been put to rest years ago.

I hear you, but I'm not sure why you're amazed. Just look at some of the responses in this very thread and you'll see the type of people who say such silly things.

hawaii has stated that a] they don't like to give out the long forms and b] the one that everybody was bitching about for the last three years is in fact the official certificate

which only leaves the question of why such a bunch of simpletons spent so long on this when they could have been doing something more constructive [like having themselves voluntarily committed]

    Interesting.
I read the birth certificate due to my curiosity. The only things I found strage are

    1) In 1961 they would have written "Black" or "Negro" in the box marked race of the father.
    2) The mother's first name is Stanley.

All said and done, he looks american to me. But I never thought that he didn't.

This won't end until the tea party and the rest of the racists swallow themselves...

They are now making claims like... Even if he was born in hawaii, he later moved, or he was later adopted or he was this, so therefore he doesn't qualify as a 'natural born US citizen'...

Why did Obama wait this long to release the long form?

    Two reasons...
One is that they had already released the official document, that ends their requirements to prove it.
The other, is that they let the tea party and other racists (and general conspiracy theorists) to froth at the mouth, write books, hold interviews, lay out whole theories on why he was hiding it. In other words, wait for the inuendos to be spoken clearly, so that they were on record as to what they said the 'truth' was.

Why did he choose to release it now instead of waiting even longer?

Because this way, he can claim he is on the high ground.

Even though he had already proven it, even though it had already been verified by damn near everyone who went to hawaii (except for the claims of those who never went or only claimed to send investigators there), this was still a major source of noise in american politics, and by offering this further proof, even though he didn't need to, he is telling the american people that regardless of how he is viewed in terms of giving into silly demands and stuff, that he will, if it lets the nation move on to what he thinks matters.

Of course, he (like everyone else, I would suspect) doesn't expect this to end it...

What will end it is when the tea party and the other racists that keep pushing it, are dropped into irrelevancy in US politics due to their adherence to theories that are 100% bullshit...

Trump's already pushing that he should release his Occidental College records and intimating that the only way he could have gotten into Columbia and Harvard is affirmative action. That'll be his new flame to fan for a little while. The sad thing is, there are a lot of people out there who eat it up because they want to believe.

John Stewart made a good comment on his show last night. He did a montage of all the major news outlets anchors and correspondents saying "And now can we put this story to bed?" And his response was "You guys are in charge of it, who are you asking?" The grotesque and ridiculous continue to attract viewers, I don't see that changing. We can expect a new round of slanderous hyperbole, followed by another, ad infinitum.

Welcome to the good USA. Where we made sure that democracy died by ridiculing the intelligent in the general public.

We're certainly a pretty pathetic group of monkeys.

Remember the "truthers"? They came before the birthers. They questioned John Kerry's status as a Vietnam War hero. It's exactly the same group of very rich, very white people behind the birther movement. It's people who don't want democrats in power, who will spread vicious lies over and over. The real problem is the media eats it up cause it causes controversy where none existed before. And of course it takes everyone's focus off the REAL issues which need to be addressed like war, the deficit and the economy.

It also proves that if you repeat a lie often enough, there are enough dumb people out there who will believe it.
