There was no subforums of Drama Movies, or I missed it. Either way, what did you guys think of this movie? It is playing on TBS right now, and so on later in the night. It's an interesting concept that I'm sure in the next 10 years there will be a reality show based upon this. Which is quite scary. Do you think it will come to that? That reality shows will be of one person's life and everybody else is just going along with it? But nowadays, anything seems possible. It just an interesting thought, that you wake up and notice that all your life, was all fake and just entertainment for others.
We saw that movie in my English class two years ago. I thought it was creepy. How can you watch somone grow up and let them believe that their living in the 'real' world? I forgot if the parents in the show were his own, but I would never do that to my kid if I had one. I don't care how much you pay me! That's far too much for a person. It was a really good movie, though, and I do hope that television never comes down to that. I don't think TV will need to do that, either, since people are dumb enough to act like something they're not and make up story plots for the people watching reality tv shows to keep them more 'interesting'
It's a creepy concept. I already explain why, but I really hope it won't ever come down to that. That's the day entertainment dies, in my opinion. Ever read 'The Giver' before? Same concept, really. I'd say 'The Giver' is like a kid's version of 1984 by Orwell. Or at least that's what I think. But 'The Giver' was a great book and opens up your eyes. It did mine anyways. That was in 8th grade, and that's when we watched the Truman Show.
hi karma lennon i enjoyed this movie. I thought it was something that everyone experiences sometime in their life. Paranoia. I think that concept your talking about is pretty damn whack. I for one hate reality shows....but to think AFTER the truman show that they would go and make something like this actually wouldnt suprise me. Americans will do anything...especially to be on tv
I thought the last scene where he slams his boat into the sky was terrific... one of my favoritemovie moments of all time...I was just thinking about this earlier today
i love that movie. i think there is another message, and that is what the creator of the show says. about how we accept the reality we're presented with as real. in the end, when he's talking to truman, it brings up questions about god, at least in me. i think it is an amazing movie and it's more of an extreme satire on the truth of our culture than a "concept".
i liked this film a lot. i kind of felt connected to Truman for the helplessness he feels when he realizes everything was fake. a great movie according to me, and Jim Carrey, as always, was awesome.
This was one of Jim Carrey's first serious roles. I saw it years ago in theatres when it first came out and loved it. I was pretty young then, in my young teens maybe, and I remember it being one of the first movies I ever enjoyed that really made me think. Reality shows are not that much different than the concept introduced in the Truman Show. Sure, there isn't a show that fools a person into thinking they're living their life when they're really in a reality show, but the concept in this movie that the majority of people are little blood-sucking sadistic voyeurs who feed off the pain of others...well, thats pretty true to life.
Someone gave me the dvd a few years ago, I liked it. One of the only Jim Carrey movies I actually enjoyed.
