There isn't really a generic term to describe sts9's sound, but it is uniquely their own. That Sector 9 sound. I simply use the general term Electronic Jam band when trying to explain it but that doesn't begin to explain their style of music. They're a quintet from Georgia made up of a guitarist, bassist, drummer, bongo guy, and a keyboard player. The guitarist, bassist, and bongo player also mess around with laptops and MIDI keyboards in a lot of songs. Mesmerizing rhythms, a ton of computer-based samples and sounds, and a really tight band to play it all. I think they're a pretty hard group to explain. I was lucky enough to see my first sts9 show this summer with Umphrey's Mcgee and it was mind blowing. My first mdma experience as well haha. http://www.sts9.com/peaceblaster/ You can hear the two singles off their new cd there. Though to really appreciate Sts9 you've got to hear them live. They have a ton of high quality shows on archive.org available for downloading if anyone is interested. I'm currently listening to Mike Gordon's guest appearance in Burlington for 15 minutes of straight improv with David Murphy's bass Murph (STS9's bassist) is playing a synth for this track. check it out
fuck that dude.... sound tribe kicks ass!! they come from my home town...what what everyone should experience them live...these are links of 3 different live songs played at their New Years run in Atlanta...check em out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf8SZYXRufg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L9KSLDr69g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MdKS3mYI-4
Cool I thought that maybe someone might be interested in finding some new music, or just talking about some STS9 show they've been to or a favorite song or something. They're an awesome band that I think a lot of people would like. I think discussing music is more fun than desperately searching the forums for a place to post that funny new picture you found. I do think that people sitting like that are hilarious.
The Tabernacle New Years runs will be the stuff of legend someday. Anyone hear the new CD yet? I've heard really good things about it but I haven't bought it yet. I'm digging the direction they're going with all this political awareness and lobbying for change with peaceblaster.com and such. I really hope they release All God's Children Can Dance in the states someday. That sounds like a really cool concept. Anyone seen that or the Re:Generation documentary?
their new cd is awesome!!! I can't even describe it...you gotta get on it!!! no i have not seen the documentary yet...
i've been getting into some of their music lately. they have really good sound imo, hopefully i can catch a show someday too sounds like fun.
good to hear, the thread has a purpose i hope you enjoy what you hear, let the music dance in your ears
i have "artifact" and i seriously dont get it. i have a live album, and i dont get it. i really like livetronica, but i haven't gotten into sts9. i really want to see them live so i can really see/hear what its all about.
I actually wasn't a huge fan of Artifact or any of their cds really, but I'm liking Peaceblaster. Artifact was a little too overdone I think. Even though the production is really cool and intricate, I dont think Artifact captures STS9's sound very well. It's a cool cd. It just doesn't sound like the STS9 I know and love. I got Peaceblaster the other day and it sounds great. I had already heard most of the songs from listening to their summer tour. Good to see them put out a quality studio recording though. What are some of your favorite songs? Mine are currently Circus, Poseidon, and Music, Us. It's always changing though.
You're offended by the fact that I appreciate music? I highly recommend you try listening to music sometime in your life. It's pretty cool stuff. Unless you're an angry deaf guy. If that's the case, I'm sorry.
