The Translator is a suspenseful, harrowing, and deeply moving memoir. Daoud Hari grew up in a village in the Darfur region of Sudan. Hari's village was attacked and destroyed, but his family decimated and dispersed. Hari roamed the dessert helping those in need in a time of genocide. Hari offered his services to international aid groups as a translator. Journalists were outlawed in the region and death was the punishment for "foreign spies."
