I started reading the post "The exodus has begun" thinking that someone was finally going to get something started. well, if you've kept up with the post...well, it's not really going anywhere. It did start me thinking again though. I share a similar vision, but mine has been one of action, and of very little talk over the last year. When the last members of our original community left a year ago, I withdrew my effort to have a communal family / tribe and retreated into my own life and focused on being self sufficient alone. Well, I'm a social person, and here we are a year later in the communal living forum once again. I'm thinking of the same things: community, family, and working together to make things easier. If you've read any of my other posts, you'll know that I believe in the Native American prophecies that have predicted earth changes. Not the end of the world kind of crap, but a cyclic change that the earth goes through periodically to cleanse it's self. If you keep up with the scientific news, you'll know that many of these changes are already happening. For example, The north pole was (for the first time in human history) awash. Meaning that an expedition sailed there in a boat instead of walking or driving the last several miles (New York Times 04') or that a magnetic pole shift is predicted within our lifetime (FEMA) or that reports by government scientists are actually starting to acknowledge the existence and severity of global warming. These things by themselves may not mean much to a lot of people, but when the earth changes, whether changes. when whether changes, the food production cycle becomes unstable. Meaning (to me at least) you'd better be rich enough to afford a 10 dollar potato, or have the ability to grow one yourself. Wether patterns have already ruined many many crops, but the incidents have been small scale. When the patterns become more drastic (and they are every year) there is the possibility of world wide crop failure. This doesn't mean the end though. It means quit relying on agribusinesses and start relying on yourself and others of like mind to produce and store your own food.
Aside from the practicalities of working as a group, I miss the evening campfire stories, and watching people do for one another in a caring way. I miss my brother that I met here on the forum too. Where are you woodsman?
This is about life, but it's about quality of life too. It's about putting down the fascination with the commercial and mass produced and taking pride in the art and craftsmanship of something that you or someone else has made by hand. There is a beauty and satisfaction in the creation of something as small and simple as a cup or a bowl. The experience that I've had here has been healing to my soul and I would like to share that with others. I've grown a lot since last year. I recognize that departure from Babylon is a long and arduous process. To jump in head first is to die, or crawl back to "civilization" with your tail tucked between your legs in defeat. If you would like to experience the first stages of that departure, please feel free to contact me. There is a place here for anyone sincere.

    With love to you all

HH...I guess I'm a pussy too. I have to do a lot of 10 and 12 hours days around here, but I have to say...I take my breaks all day. Playing with the dogs is one habit I need to break...they just won't stop. When they gang up on me, theres not much I can do. They're 80-95 pound Great Pyranees. If I don't get something done that i'm supposed to...I just say ...honey, the dogs wouldn't let me. They're damned good herding dogs. I just have to convince my wife that they herded me to the computer!
but...in all fairness, I did work on fencing and clearing the lower field today! I feel for you, but this isn't a dream for pussies so buck up chump and bite it back tomorrow.

    Peace brothers...all of yall

Damn you HH....You know I'm feeling like a slacker now. Well...the fence will be done today! and to top it off. I'll finish the garden and start the incubator too. I might even get the horse plow out... wait a minute...no, I'm not that deluded yet. Have a great day. And for anyone else reading and thinking about coming by...It's not all work. We're cooking out tonight!

    Peace

    u serious about the slaughterhouse?

I think you are much more hilllbilly than hippie, to be honest...in fact I don't see any "hippie" in you at all. The thing you're best at doing is taking up space. You sure don't offer anything productive.

Changin, who appointed you the judge of others? There's no need to be rude, you don't like HHB because you don't know HHB and you certainly don't understand HHB. True, he can be a bit coarse, but I grew up in his neck of the woods and we called it "charm".

When you have taken a raw piece of land, fed it your blood and sweat and life for 16+ hours a day, 7 days a week and have turned it into a self-sustaining HOME for your family, you may come back in here and judge someone.

    Until then, STFU.

no slaughter house tonight,, rained like hell here last night,, an the brother with the trailer couldnt make it up the gate hill.. :(
    He tried tho..

    As to changin times comment,,,

If he thinks he can slaughter a 900 pound cow this time of year whithout wasting any meat (not in a refrigderated climate) then he is more naive than i first thought...

Now if it was the dead of winter,, we may just take the 24 hours it would take with hand tools to gut skin quarter and butcher to the point that we could get it inside to begin wrappin and fine butchering..

this aint a 200 pound deer that ya have quartered an in the house in 4 hours young buck,, its a 900 pound steer...

Its ok zoomie ,, they just mad cause we speak the truth an live it an love it...

Well when it dries out an we scrape the ruts we will get that trailer in an have us some dirt cheap beef soon enough,, no hurry we got plenty of food to fall back on..

Hey everybody. HHB i'm cursing you. I didn't think I could raise a blister anymore, but I attacked the garden today like a bible salesman at a revival. Well, as you can tell by the title there was a death in the family today. Elvis (one of our buff orpington chicks) pulled up the big worm today. The other 19 in the batch are doing good though.
As for sending one of the pyranees...I'll be sending a hide if he decides to bed down in the garden again. Well...in all fairness, it's the spot that he can watch the ducks, both houses, and the fields. (the two girls have the back covered) He hates being reprimanded though. If you raise your voice to him, he goes off and pouts for a couple of hours. It's the funniest thing to watch this HUGE dog pout like a little baby. It's funnier watching my 5 year old daughter dragging him around telling him "I'm the boss applesauce" He's taller than she is.
No cook out tonight though (thanks HHB) didn't get done till a little bit ago, and then I found Elvis.
Oh and by the way. I thought ya'll was hillbillies. Go to the laundromat??? You don't have a bathtub?
Well, one thing I use my education for (besides to wipe my ass) is to invent some pretty handy ( and darned strange looking) gadgets to make my life here easier, so I guess you'd call me a techno-hillbilly. No...wait...I'm a hillwilliam. My family had an indoor toilet by the time I was 14. I still have nightmares about digging those damned shitholes, but that elevated us in the eyes of our town. Population us, the smiths and the joneses. No really. Look up the population of Laquey, MO. K-12 in one building. Post office / feedstore make up the shopping district...If you want to hear backwoods stories...Anyway, good luck with the bovine conundrum.

The dumpsters are full of poisened food. Genetically altered crap that we can't export to other countries...They won't take it. And have you seen the prices on the organic foods? Only the rich people can afford it. It's starting to be really cool to be conscious of what you put in your body. No...the only way to get good food in this country is to grow it yourself, or trade for it with someone else that grows it. Your right though. I don't have much time for being a hippy. I have a hard enough time just being. Just a word of advice...try to dive behind whole food markets and such...if you can find em'

"CHARM". Maybe that's why rednecks are known to be so backward. Just look at that convoluted, misplaced terminology! Charm...LOLOLOL. Some might drag a black person from their bumper and call THAT charm as well. In fact, some call George W. Bush charming!

As for taking a piece of land and cultivating it...which is my plan, I better not run into people like HHB, because you can be sure fights would break out. People like HHB shouldn't be living communal lives anyway...they should either be police officers, or stock brokers.

And when it comes to judging others...maybe you should talk to HHB too, because he's sure pretty good at dishing out judgement also. But don't take him to task on that since he's from your neck of the woods. You probably just "don't take kindly to outsiders" (spoken in thick southern drawl).

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!! HHB, these people don't know you at all, do they? No senses of humor. Iffin you get in a fight when you meet HHB, it's cause your the ornery one.
Anyway, Im just a kiddin. I dont think I've been in a dumpster since February. Mi espousa has two jobs, one at an organic farm and one at the local co-op. We get all our food free before it makes it's way to the dumpster now. And it's good for us. We too are working like hippies ain't suppossed to. She at her jobs, me wrenching at the cars all day when I'm not cleaning the house or cooking the meals. (Hey, she's the one with the job, I'd rather play househusband that have a boss. No wait, maybe I do have a boss. But the benefits are very competitive.) We're hoping to get back on the road, and in order to do that I need to convert our 10mpg home to veggie oil, but in order to afford to do that I have to convert the two mercedes we bought on loan and sell them. I'm finished one, and now the other needs some wiring voodoo that I'm gonna pay some fool to fix, and the calipers and window motors and tie-rod ends I'm gonna do myself.
And I have the backache from hell from leaning over those cars.

We let some college kids use the garden for a community garden this year. We tilled it, then Pantara got the jobs and we had more produce than we needed, and our backs were getting enough work, thank you, so we gave the garden to the kids. I sould like I'm gettin old...

Yeah crypt an HHb Doin it has always been way more arduous (hard - damn sometimes that couple of years in school shows through - I'll beat it yet) than talkin bout it
And O BTW changin you be goin against the guidelines attackin an makin it personal - you are keepin it goin when you could let it be, tch, not cool bro. It takes all kinds an if you get into really doin communal there will be times when personalities clash but if you can't make peace it fails - an all that hard work goes for nought.
HHB and I have gone round and still have a good amount of respect for each other - that's how it's gotta be - why, because we are all in this together - and as crytpto says the eve of destruction is upon us and though it can be used to create a better world, suffering ain't something to be laughed at. We be in for some Haarrrd times and those that are doin at least have a leg up because we know how to do. Those that are still only talkin it - that means not actually workin on the land - have not gone througyh the times of findin out just how tough and how much you just gotta be part jackass to continue.
Now you all drop by an visit iffn you get up this way - o an dilly we're about 50 m. S of Rochester - soon as the legal gets done and the land is in on it i'll make the adress public - have a lotta respect that you put yours out there - rednecks abound everywhere an some are not too friendly to them there communes - gotta admit that they talk different when i use the word Co-Op instead.
An crypto , been mostly doin by our lonesome, but we also be very aware of how the people gotta be right to survive and prosper.... it's kinda like if it's supposed to happen it will - and meanwhile we just gotta keep livin an doin because iffn we don't ... well can't blame no one but ourselves.
Peace an Blessings to you all ... and yee hah keep on truckin
