what a great flower named after the sun..very pretty and it even follows the sun, which means it is heliotropic..most are grown for their seeds, which produce and excellent oil..sunflower oil is used for cooking, and also an ingredient in shampoo, lip balm, hand cream, body lotion and even in some motor oil..sunflower seeds are food for birds and other small animals..seeds are known to have almost 22% protein..one more thing..2 and a half acres of sunflowers helps produce 100 lbs of honey..bees love them..what a great flower..
Awwww.. I didnt know some of that. I picture a great big sunflower in my head now. I was starting to feel like shit, but I feel better now. thaks D.
Sunflowers are okay, they are better than roses... Though flowers I like are usually the really ugly ones that nobody likes...
Here ya go: edit: sorry shroom the picture failed. It was the flower that smells like a rotting corpse.
The amazing yet versatile sunflower of which nothing is wasted, including the hulls and heads (after removal of the seeds) which can be processed to produce pectin, the gelling agent in jelly and jam. and the hulls can be compressed into logs for fireplaces, and the stalks shredded to make fiberboard for construction hotwater
I have tons of sunflowers coming up in my backyard that the birds planted. Smart birdies are growing their own food now.
