I really want a copy of their album; I think they only ever released one? Does anyone know if it actually exists on CD and whether it's very hard to find?
Yep, I've got Incense & Peppermints on CD. I don't think it's all that great, though. It's really pretty cheesy psych-pop which simply rode the psychedelic wave of the late '60s. I suppose it's worth having, though. EDIT: Oh, and about it being hard to find... I found my copy at the local mall, so no, I'd say it's not too hard to find.
Hi LS which version of Incense & Peppermints do you have because there are two, one is the original album with this track listing The World Is On Fire, Birds In My Tree, Lose To Live, Strawberries Mean Love, Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow, Paxton's Back Street Carnival, Hummin' Happy, Pass The Time With The SAC, Incense And Peppermints, Unwind With The Clock, Birdman Of Alkatrash and another with a very similar cover same title but very few of these songs plus a couple of other tracks. The "real" Incense and Peppermints CD is rare as Hen's teeth and will set you back about $40, whereas the other one can be picked up very easily for about $8. If you got the real McCoy that was a real find
Ahh that's a shame Collectibles re-issued something called Incense and Peppermints last month. I saw it on Amazon UK listed with the original track list at mid price and thought wow common sense has prevailed and you can finally get for a decent price. So I thought might as well see if this reissue is any good and went and ordered a copy. When it arrived it had the chopped up track listing and this really cheesy redesigned cover, all red psychedelic crap with a picture of the band stuck on top, it looked like one of those CD's you'd buy from a rack in a petrol station. Sent it back straight away, hope Amazon have changed the listing so someone else doesn't make the same mistake
Hmm, that's a rip-off, eh? Yes, they should definitely change the track listing on their website. Say... why is this album chopped-up so badly, anyway?
hehe strawberry alarm clock is coool ...but i mean they were the bubblegum pop stuff bak in the 60s. better than the pop shit they got nowadays!
"Hmm, that's a rip-off, eh? Yes, they should definitely change the track listing on their website. Say... why is this album chopped-up so badly, anyway?" I've no idea, only thing I can think of is if certain songs were written by different band members maybe the company who wanted to re-issue could only get clearance for a particular set of tracks and went with them and did it on the cheap. Shame because the full length album is far superior. My advice in the absence of an original is to pick up Strawberries Mean Love anthology which has most of the original album, plus extras and tracks from Psych Out. I'm not a massive SAC fan, most of their stuff is extremely derivative, but their track Pretty Song which is the Theme from Psych Out is one of the finest pieces of summer of love psych pop ever written IMHO
was going to mention this before but there's 4 studio albums, Incense is the second release I think. The third album, can't remember its name but has an old dude with a beard is supposed to be their best. Then there's another called something like World in a seashell, something like that can't remember properly
Hey hiddendoor... Is that your website in your signature? I've used it many times, and I enjoy checking it out now and then.
Awesome. I really like it. Actually, it's the only good psychedelic music source that I have been able to find.
thanks man! there are some that are way more comprehensive though. here's some favourites http://www.soybomb.com/BorderlineBooks/us6070s/ http://www.soybomb.com/BorderlineBooks/dreams/dreams.html http://www.aural-innovations.com/ http://www.lysergia.com/ http://www.pooterland.com/ http://www.soybomb.com/BorderlineBooks/uk6070s/ http://www.shindig-magazine.com/ http://www.unimeri.com/PsychotropicZone/ http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/
Well, yes, I'm sure there are more comprehensive ones, but I like the way yours is set up. It's easy to use and easy to find artists. Ok, thanks. I'll check those out.
I loooooove Psych Out hehehe it is so bad its good, the music is fantastic, great cameo by the Seeds. Also Jack Nicholson's guitar poses during Purple Haze crack me up, but I love that film it is full of cheesy moments but I really enjoy it every time. Ah man gives me goosebumps thinking of Pretty Song and also the scene on the stairs where all the hippies have these long crystal tie decoration thingies, ahh its a great film The Trip on the other hand is nowhere near as good, has dated badly and not in the lovable way that Psych Out has. It is certainly worth watching though, I enjoyed it lol. The best bit is when he is hallucinating about being in bed doing the business with his exgirl friend and the special effects have this liquid projection on their bodies, it looks amazing. You don't see anything gratuitous but it is just really well done.
In the 70's, my parents and family had albums with the like of the Byrds, Beatles and Zombies. Kind of grew up with it but didn't start investigating myself until early to mid 80's and even then that was amongst all the other music I was into. Psych is probably the only genre I've really stuck with all my life though for some reason.
i have their album and it's sometimes fun listening to the album ... need special mood though I love 'beyond the valley of the dolls' .... that's something i love ... the film and some of the songs are so nice ... 'in the long run'
