Also, looks like you are headed for a 4 times worse than usual flu season

Flu & pneumonia killed 10 times more Brits than coronavirus AGAIN last week, new stats show

FLU and pneumonia killed 10 times more people in the UK than coronavirus in the last week, official statistics show.

It's the 14th week in a row in which the seasonal winter bug has claimed more lives than Covid-19 in England and Wales.

The Office for National Statistics said that 14 per cent of deaths registered in the week ending September 18 were caused by flu and pneumonia.

By comparison, Covid-19 accounted for 1.5 per cent of all deaths - a total of 139 fatalities.

However, the number of weekly deaths involving the deadly bug are beginning to increase - after a two-week dip.

It is the second consecutive weekly rise, with the number of deaths involving Covid-19 up 40.4 per cent from the 99 deaths registered in the previous week.

In the week before that - the week ending September 4 - numbers fell below 100 for the first time since the lockdown was introduced, with 78 deaths registered.

Flu & pneumonia 'killed 10 times more Brits than Covid AGAIN last week'

Putting covid in perspective of all the other stuff people die of ( remembering only about 10% of the blue is covid only)

And last but not least, seriousness of the virus was accelerated in April because they were placing the sick in the same environment ( hospital wards) where patients were getting an increased viral load that was constantly getting newly sick people at their most contagious. They told you to socially distance outside, but they did the reverse inside hosiptals

And now on top of that, because of the lockdowns and all the social distancing far less people have built up enough immunity to influenza and you are headed for a winter where the flu will be fair more deadly, flu shot or not

Errrmm isn't pneumonia just one of the side-effects of covid -19 ??? - therefore, if I am right, your statistics you quote are factually inaccurate !!!

I still don't understand why they are not using the nightingale hospitals properly, for isolation, in other words if you have covid you go to a nightingale or somewhere similar. Be honest you cant have visitors so it doesn't matter if you are 50 miles from home, we need all the covid cases in hospitals where there is nothing BUT covid patients, a bit like years ago when TB was rife, there were lots of hospitals just for TB patients, in fact they didn't go anywhere else. Thats the only way we can win, infection control is so poor in most hospitals these days that putting covid patients anywhere near anyone else who is sick is just asking for trouble.

No man, someone that has pneumonia and tests negative for covid-19 didn't get pneumonia from covid-19

Far more likely t'other way round, - they contract Covid - 19, and are treated for it, and it then develops into pneumonia !!!

Yes, becuase you seem confused as usual

If someone continually tests negative for Covid, and get pneumonia, then obviously they didn't get pneumonia from covid.

Yes, but some people have developed pneummonia AFTER being exposed to Covid - 19, therefore your statistics could be wildly inaccurate since you cannot say who or how many who have developed pneumonia, were exposed to or suffered from Covid - 19 first. !!!

The scumbag 'nasty party's' test, track & trace is in a shambles and an absolute disgrace !!!

Therese Coffey has admitted she does not know how many close contacts of coronavirus cases were not tracked as a result of a testing blunder which omitted more than 15,000 positive results in recent days.

The work and pensions secretary’s comments came after Public Health England revealed its official Covid dashboard had underreported thousands of cases due to a technical glitch.

Although those who tested positive for the virus were informed, the cabinet minister was also unable to say whether their contacts had now been tracked down by NHS Test and Trace following the discovery of the error.

Quizzed on the fault, Ms Coffey told BBC Breakfast: "I'm conscious that PHE (Public Health England) had this glitch but they identified it so it is being rectified so we can get those contacts potentially into the system and being contacted as is appropriate and decided by the test and trace regime.

"We can't change the recent history, PHE will make sure that this sort of error doesn't happen again but they did pick up this error and I think they've acted quickly to rectify it."

Asked if she knows how many potential close contacts have not been traced, she said: "I'm afraid I just don't have that information."

Asked if they have now been contacted, she said: "I know that people who had the initial results have all been contacted, I don't know the answer to that question."

Jonathan Ashworth, the shadow health secretary, also demanded Matt Hancock address the Commons on Monday, and said of the error: “This is shambolic and people across the country will be understandably alarmed.”

He added: “‘Technical problems’ means over 15,000 previously missing Covid cases added to the totals for recent days. Were these cases followed up by contact tracing teams? Are contacts self-isolating? How does this impact local restrictions? People will be alarmed.”

So much for the scumbag 'nasty party's' "world beating" test, track & trace system !!!

Matt Hancock and the rest of the scumnag 'nasty party' couldn't organise a p*ss ip in a brewery !!!

Matt Hancock Admits 23,000 Contacts Of 'Missing' Covid Cases Still Not Traced
Health secretary Matt Hancock says some not alerted to virus risk after IT error meant 16,000 positive cases not counted.
Health secretary Matt Hancock delivers a statement on the government's actions on coronavirus in the House of Commons
Contact tracers are still scrambling to reach around 23,500 people after an IT error meant thousands of Covid-19 cases were not logged on government computers, Matt Hancock has admitted.

The health secretary was speaking in the Commons after the shock disclosure that almost 16,000 lab-confirmed cases had been overlooked for more more than a week.

Experts estimate that 48,000 people who came into contact with someone infected were not alerted as a result.

Hancock said that as of 9am on Monday, contact tracers had only reached 51% of the missing cases’ close contacts – meaning some 23,500 have still not been alerted to their risk of having the potentially deadly disease.

Amid accusations from Labour that the government was “failing on the basics”, Hancock blamed Public Health England’s “legacy” computer systems and said tracers were working overtime to correct the cock-up.

He told MPs an investigation was underway and added: “Contact tracing of these cases began first thing Saturday. We brought in 6,500 hours of extra contact tracing over the weekend and I can report to the House as of 9am today 51% of the cases have now been contacted a second time for contact tracing purposes.

“I want to reassure the House that outbreak control in care homes, schools and hospitals has not been directly affected because dealing with outbreaks in these settings does not primarily rely on this PHE system.”

The UK’s total number of confirmed cases has now surpassed 500,000.

Shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth said problems with testing were “putting lives at risk”, adding Hancock “should apologise”.

He added: “In recent weeks we’ve had people told to travel hundreds of miles for a test, we’ve had hundreds of children out of school unable to get a test. We’ve had tracers sitting idle watching Netflix. We’ve had care home tests taking days to be processed.

“Yesterday we had a health minister saying this could be a moment of national pride like the Olympics. We’ve had a prime minister in a complete muddle over the rules and now, at one of the most crucial points in this pandemic, we learn that almost 16,000 positive cases went unreported for a week.

“That means as many as 48,000 contacts not traced and not isolating. Thousands of people blissfully unaware they’ve been exposed to Covid potentially spreading this deadly virus at a time when hospital admissions are increasing and we’re in the second wave.

“This isn’t just a shambles, it’s so much worse than this, and it gives me no comfort to say it, but it’s putting lives at risk and he should apologise when he responds.”

Ashworth renewed calls for the government to reconsider outsourcing giant Serco’s role in NHS Test and Trace.

He added: “Surely now is the time to not renew Serco’s contract and instead give responsibility and resources to NHS labs and local public health teams to deliver testing and tracing?”

Hancock, who sidestepped the invitation to apologise, also faced calls to publish criteria for when local lockdowns could be lifted, adding some areas felt restrictions were “like Hotel California – you can check out but you can never leave – and families deserve answers”.

The latest development, I'm now self isolating due to a cock-up at the hospital where the wife works, basically someone in her office tested positive for Covid so they sent everyone home. They told them that anyone who couldn't work from home would be on unpaid leave as it was their own fault for not distancing! Cue me getting VERY VERY annoyed, it was the hospital bosses who crammed them into that office, it was the bosses who allowed ward staff to share the same canteen facilities as clerical staff, and allowed them to use the area while wearing uniforms they wore on the wards, it was them who decided it was safe to continue running the air-con when the recommendation from the experts, in short it was the bosses that created the problem and then wanted to shirk their responsibilities.
I remember in the begining, people were told to wear face masks yet hospital staff were told NOT to wear them in public areas in case they frightened the public! This is the very same public who were supposed to be carrying the virus, so what is going on there then?
Apparently they now say,and I,m quoting this from the latest information we've been given, that you are infectious for 4 to 5 days before symptoms occur, in fact during the period when you are displaying symptoms you are not actually capable of spreading the infection. What the hell is going on, it's all very very worrying.

The latest cock up with this system is that the swabs used for taking samples are now in short supply when the need is now most.

You really couldn't just couldn't make this up.

The Test and Trace system of which is the Government's single form of defence against the growing tide of Covid is in absolute shambles. It's like comparing a grenade eating a trifle, a bloody mess .
