I own a pure bread pitbull and she is the best dog. I can't see myself owning another breed. Everywhere i go when i have a dog talk with some random person 9 out of 10 times people usually have a bad reaction. Its really pisses me off sometimes how ignorant people are about dogs in general.

The german shepherd was once vued as a killer a few decades ago. So was the rottweiler, doberman, bulldog and boxer. I've met all those dogs and they are all great breeds. This negative fighting bullshit is all based off of peoples ignorance. Yes people do fight with dogs, and yes its very wrong, but don't judge the entire breed. It amazes me how people assume a dogs personality just based on the breed.

Everywhere i walk her, i get stared at, and frowned upon, until someone walks up to me who knows a thing or two and is usually like "hey you have a pit! omg i love pitbulls, can i give it a hug?!"

You can raise any dog to attack and be a threat. Raise it with love, kindness and correct discipline then come back to me and tell me if your dog didn't turn out loyal, loving, and a great companion.

Didn't mean to vent but i wish this pitbull bullshit would just die already.

Its not the dog on the leash its the human holding it. Blame your own species not theirs.

 

Lmao i am the same way.I was just telling a life long friend that i will never own another breed of dog... It wont every go away we the people that love the breed have to fight for it and stand up for our dogs or they will also be taken away Because of B.S.L.!

I blame people and my Husky dogs are very good police dogs. People dont want to mess with them because they say "omg look that wolf dog" pits dont look nothing like wolves .. some pits actually look like happy labs.

 

I Mean look at this pic does he look like he was " born a Killer". I think not.... It is the human that is born mean,evil,to judge or do something so inhumane to another living animal.

 

My Sis had a great pit tell it tried to attack her and her son had to shoot it

 

So it tryed to attack... lmao was not any apbt i know of Apbt just dont try to attack they do. I have hunted wild hogs with them and seen just what a Apbt can do in kill mood. Having said that not everyone should own one just like a gun....

 

The Pitbull problem is epidemic in Texas. The family 'pet' mauling and killing kids everyday.The family pets have never been trained to fight. It is their nature. I have had two pits. Even tho they would be more likely to lick you to death, I still would not let the children around them. I'm not paranoid, I am careful with my kids lives and any Potiential harm that could take place in it.

I love all animales ( except cats bc I am highly allergic) but I will not own another pit. They are indeed chicken killers and any other animal that gets in their way. I would never trust them with a small child or other animal.

Even if your pit never showed any sign of aggression it is bred into them and has the potiential to mame and kill. I wouldnt wanna take a chance with my kids or some one elses kids lives just to be a pit owner. You hope you pit isnt like that but you never know for sure.

Animal aggression was breed into them true but any dog that showed any type of human aggression was put down it was not a trait that was allowed to breed. You should all do a little more reading on how this get family dog has been made out to be such a evil villain. I am not saying everyone should own one but please at least know what your talking about before coming out with all this hate.Go read a book on them find out a little more before labeling a beauitful dog a killer...I have and always will love all pittys even the rest of the world wants to make them out to be something they are not.

 

They can be nice dogs.

I don't really know shit about dogs, but once met a very nice abandoned female at a state park I was at with my family, very well behaved and friendly, I guess I was about 12, never felt in any sort of danger with her or anything.... Unfortionatly my parents wanted to pretend that she wasen't dumped and someone would pick her up, so we left her at the humane society, who would then later not adopt her to us just because she was a pit.... so she went to the directors special pit owning friend, who i have a suspicion was really the directors special pit fighting friend. Too bad.

I'd sort of like a pit/chihuahua mix. It's not that pits are inherently viscous dogs, they've just got a LOT more brawn to back it up if they do something bad. My chihuahua's bitten me, and then she goes and whimpers in her crate until I forgive her, so it's considerably less dangerous. A pit could kill you before feeling any need to win your forgiveness, by which time it's a bit too late.

 

Responsible Apbt is few and far between now-a-days and that is a sad thing to me..

 

It is that terrier that makes them want to run and catch pray. I still fully feel that the owner should be the one with his or her ass on the line and not the dogs life.

 

I'm a dog breeder and have some knowledge about dogs. Living in texas too where they fight dogs, it's horrible. Here where I live there are at least 5 pitbull maulings of children a week, yes a week. It's always on the news about pitbulls killing and mauling kids. They are outlawed in most cities here.

I know several ppl and at least half of them have pits, everyone of them have said that their pits have killed other animals. I agree that they have a lot more brawn to back it up. Most breeders I know will not have pits in their kennel.

I have not heard of Labs being visous, on the contrary labs are very disirable as family pets. I have yet to hear of a incident with a lab attacking children, not saying it has never happened, it's just highly rare. Pitbull attacks are quiet common.

In Texas they are trying to get pits banned entirely.

I live in Louisiana i know what the dogs can be used for if you just let anyone and everyone have one with out the owner being reponsible!!! You should not own a Apbt if you have other animals that you cant watch 24/7 !!! They are breed for hunting its a dog.... You should not let stupid people breed but we do that too.. It makes the news just because it is a "pitbull" or "pit-mix". Just Because you can go buy one from any corner kennel trying to puppy puddle DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD GO GET ONE.... When? when will we stop blaming a lesser animals and humans be reponsible for what they have and own. It is just so sad to watch a beautiful animal be put down because of its being.I mean b.s.l is taking Apbt and having a holocaust with the breed. It may not be in my life time or yours. You should all take you time read about b.s.l. for it will be your beloved breed next.

 

I don't think that any particular type of dog is good or bad. I think it all boils down to the time and energy to train them right. And when it comes to pitbulls, rottweilers, german shepherds, etc. people can't train them properly.

However, there are possibilities that these dogs can go senial at a certain age. A good friend of my family's had his stomach ripped out by his pitbull who was 9 years old and was trained very well. I know of a few instances with german shepherds that have lost their minds, also.

 

I'm sorry, but pits are not hunting dogs.

They've been bread for the fighting pit.

Look at a nice hunting dog, and then look at a nice pit: The hunting dog is lean and strong, fast, etc. The pit is built and then built some more, solid muscle and a face and throat and all arranged for fighting, with minimal flesh that would tear like ears.

They're fighting dogs. And there are really sweet ones and really nasty ones, just like anything. But the ratio of nasty pits to friendly trustworthy pits is considerably worse than for most dogs that have NOT been bred for unpredictable viscous fighting tendencies.

And until people stop fighting dogs and selecting dogs to fight, it will not be possible to clean up the pitbull's genetics as they relate to personality traits-because as breeders do other breeders do the opposite to produce fighting dogs.

 

Here's where I'm at--you hurt my kid and I'll fuck you up.

Not going to put myself or my kid in that situation. Don't bother me and I wont bother you mentality.
