Some people want the legal term pet "owner" to be changed to pet "gardian", and I agree. It may not be a massive change, but I think it does it's part in making society take a more humane approach to animals in general - they aren't objects, they're living beings.

I like guardian better too. I dont "own" my pets. They own me.;)
Anyway, I wasn't aware there was a debate going on about this somewhere???

I know that in Rhode Island, one isn't a dog "owner" anymore, they are their "gaurdians" according to an old ASPCA mag I've found. I like the idea of us being gardians of animals too, it's better than considering them property.

I totally 100% agree. I brought that up in this forum months ago, but so many people went on about how it's "taking it too far" and it "doesn't make a difference or matter".

    I totally agree :)

    It matters to me!
Owner implies slavery, that one can posses an animal with it's special soul. There is no way that could be true. Especially not for Branwen, she is definetly her own spirit.
I appreciate that it is meant innocently, but it still niggles at me.

So I insist on being called Branwen's guardian/carer. Though most of the time I use Mama, because she's my baby. :)

What does it matter what they call it, as long as you are good to your animals
