I was trying to decide where to post this, so I decided on Sci-Fi even though this show is hilarious. Has anyone seen it? Are there any Seth MacFarlane fans out there? I just wanted to say this show is awesome. They even did an episode where one of the crew uses the Simulator (Holideck) for Fantasy Sex. C'mon how many of us Trekkies wondered if they had sex simulations in the Holideck on the Enterprise..... haha. That aside, I think its a great show. Season 2 in full effect Thursdays at 9pm on FOX.

    Any thoughts??

    Haha ummm
I meant the show but I’d be a liar if I said I hadn’t considered the sexual potential of a holodeck.

Haha, okay. Are you a Star Trek fan at all? I mean I think we all have thought of it at one time or another. Anyway, I hope you check out the Orville. It is way more Star Trek-y than that Star Trek Discovery nonsense that came out last year.

I like how the show is both comedy and serious topics. It's still very family guy like jokes though when it is comedy. Seth has a style.

Some of the alien species look too odd to me though. Like thinking right out of 1960's Star Trek "we have to make it clear this is not a human.". Evolution favors a certain body type for survival and some species would not make it.

Like the last episode for example Bortus has to pee once a year. That's not looks but in the same train of thought. He's so odd and clearly not human since we pee everyday. It makes no sense scientifically.

You make a very good point! I mean when we look back at 1960's Trek, the aliens were kinda over the top. They became a little bit more believable in later shows. I think because Seth's cartoon-y way of writing he made these aliens laughable as part of jokes for the show. The whole Bortus peeing opened the door for a lot of jokes, (the conference table scene), and on the next episode the guy with that obnoxious looking trunk is going to illicit even MORE jokes.

As I was watching it, I was thinking:

"Season 2, episode 2 and they have a story about holodeck porn fantasy, are they already scrapping the bottom of the barrel."

The show mirrors and parodies Star Trek. There was one episode of Star Trek TNG in which a crew member was addicted to Holodeck adventure fantasies, so The Orville took it a step further and made it sexual fantasies. Personally I wish they hadn't been homoerotic fantasies. I mean I get it, Bortus is from a homosexual species, but couldn't we at least balance it with a crew member using the holodeck for heterosexual fantasies? HUMAN heterosexual fantasies?

Enough of that rant, while the show has a constant undercurrent of humor it also has some good sci-fi, special effects and drama. I can't believe it's on the Fox Network.

I watched the first Season, but just cant bring myself to bother with this season

The show is just past that line of not being funny enough to watch it as a comedy, not serious enough to watch it as a drama

Good point. The first two episodes this season haven't lived up to the quality of season one. Hopefully it will get better.

The best episode in season 1 was when that worf guy couldnt marry his boyfriend because he was born female or something.

Not because it was some LGBT propaganda, because it was one of the juicy storyline.

The one with Charlize Theron comes in second.

I need some meat and potatoes with my fake star trek

  14. What about the one with Rob Lowe? Twas most excellent since the captain's ex was on the Orville for some made up bullshit reason. Ok, the show is one big made up bullshit reason.

Warning, Rob is a guy who does something gross (shocking I know).

The Krill on The Orville look suspiciously similar to the Jem'Hadar from Star Trek DS9.

I agree. I don't know why it had to go all homoerotic. I think I know why they did it though - the jail, the doctor, the beautiful garden roleplays are usually done with heterosexuals, so I guess they wanted to show us a different spin? I like the show, despite some of the stupid jokes, (Scott Grimes is usually the dumb one with the ridiculous punchlines), but overall I like the look and feel of the show and the characters are starting to really grow on me.

Part of the humor in this series is the science is so bent. A planet where the gravity is so strong it would crush a human like a grape, and yet an advanced civilization evolved there?

I don't know if I'll miss the strong girl but her replacement has potential:

I finally got around to watching this show....the episode above.

It had the holo doctor guy from Star Trek, and maybe some other guy from Star Trek.
I think the elephant guy is in car rental commercials.
Old worn out story line, no laughs, wasn't impressed.

Errrr, so you are saying the first time you noticed The Orville ripping off Star Trek was with The Krill?
