aww, the OP is so adorable. come on, really. It doesn't matter if your different then everyone else. You may feel that you're being yourself but youre really trying to create an image. It doesn't matter if you wear patchouli, play the guitar, etc. If you consider those qualaties you have "hippie" qualities, then I don't really think you're a hippie. it's your actions, and your outlook on life, not that you are "green" or "act different" I like 60s music, I'm a vegetarian, I go barefoot, but I don't think those qualities make me a hippie.
I am pretty much the only hippie in my town (pop.2000) and that used to bug me but I don't really think it means anything anymore. I'm just one person who is kind of different looking and acting and some people are nice and some seem indifferent and some probably think I'm nuts and say bad things about me behind my back but who cares? I try to be friendly and positive with everyone and avoid people who bum me out and it works reasonably OK. No one is presently on my case and I don't get into anybody else's shit and I try to forgive slights or rudeness and stay cool and things seem to even out. I suppose I am rambling here but I guess my point is be whoever you want to be and try not to hurt anyone even if they piss you off and you can live peacefully that way. You might even find some friends who don't care about the outward thing anyway. In a way it's kind of irrelevant.
I thought Jimi said it pretty well - "Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful" (whichever way you want to take it). I was really grateful to be and to define myself as a hippie, though I'm still unsure of spelling hahaha.
Me too! I just turned 16, and am about 1/2 way thru my 2nd year of highschool. I don't dress very hippy, but it's what's in the heart that counts! Unfortunately, the only thing my peers seem to care about is fighting, drinking, and getting high I'm all for drugs, but not to just get high..
hmmm, I believe the quote goes, "Not necessarily stoned, but Experienced" Experience is the best teacher, it leaves lines, wrinkle and scars. You can trace all your lines, wrinkles and scars to a given experience and recall the lesson learned. Through all experience knowledge is obtained and processed for later reflection. The Good, Bad and Ugly of it all contained in our memory banks. Some just store information, some pull information from our memory banks and apply it to everyday living, some forgetaboutit and never use it. I think every experience we have arms us with knowledge, it's up to you weather you use it or not. You have been gaining knowledge since you first crawled (or was plucked) out of your mama's womb. I will get a flashback of something I learned too many yrs ago and have a instant recall and know exactly what it means at that moment, ya know, like when ya finely get the punchline from some old joke you heard a while back. Dont worry what ppl think, they always change their minds later anyway. When you leave school you will not be that same personality, as you grow into yourself changes will take place and you will grow into your own. The ppl in school will also be doing some growing and having realization as they do. Just be the best U you can be, think for yourself and go out and experience life and dont let anyone hold you back. You will gain strenght and confidence as you learn. Bright Blessings on your journey sh
You'll find that what you see as ''robotic'' in those people is only an enveloppe. I used to feel different, but now realised that most people has some insight to offer if you can only manage to get on the same level. Every human has fears, joys, desires, suffering and whatever, even preps or greedy capitalists, or whatever. I agree it can be difficult for some people to just be themselves, but sometimes interesting people are not where you expect them to be...
It's because 90% of what we experience in day-to-day routine tells us to ignore our inner feelings, just get the socks that feel good, and the tea that taste good, and the make-up that looks good, etc etc.
sounds similar to my attitude sophomore year in high school. i remember proudly identifying myself as weird, going to iraq war protests, sporting the long hair, listening to classic rock. only there was more than just me at my school. actually, at my school, the hippies were one of the "cool" cliques. so i can't really relate there. you shoulda heard how many people told me to cut my hair when i was around your age. ...which was part of the reason i kept growing it. couldn't satisfy them, you know? anyway, yeah, just keep doin' your own thing and don't worry about the other folk. see them as sheep if you want.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! trust mee...i take a mug (filled with green tea) to school (also a sophomore) every morning with a picture of Robert Plant on it (and they all think he's a girl). Independence is great...
Hippiedom is ok, but don't let trapped by words and labels. Whatever you do, you'll never be nothing else than yourself. The hell with labels!
nice! wish someone in my high school knew who the fuck robert plant was, shit id be happy if they had just heard a zeppelin song..nothin to talk about when all theyre into is football
**applause** i always try to remember to put disclaimer quotation marks around words like "hippy". i do think the word "hippy" is a cheerful label tho, conjuring flower bedecked and colorful tye dyed images.
