In the teachings of rationalism A guru is one who never lets ego control the process of understanding... Not very dramatic or mystical. But still..the underpinnings of our future. Ask any guru. Occam
StonerBill, it is not that we lose our identity. It is giving up the small ego, the identification with the body/mind/intellect apparatus, which is ephemeral and by giving up that identification, we discover our true identity with the infinite, changeless, eternal spirit, brahman, god.
maybe a guru is sapose too, but then all he could teach would be "how the hell would I know? " you make good post dude
steffan, i disagree. you can teach your views without being controled by ego. you simply speak the knowledge you've aquired without claiming it to be right or wrong, or anything for that matter, and let your students realize you are right for themselves. i will say anyday that i am nothing special, but no one has been able to dispute my ideas yet because of the logic that backs them and the realize for themselves the truth. you always learn it better when you learn it for yourself, even if you were taught. Socratic method, baby! yea!!!!
If the truth is that you are right, it is not wrong to say you are right for the one's that you tell you are right will eventually realise that you are right, for it is the truth which will be revealed.
