I have been round these forums for longer than most folks here realize it and recently (last 6-8 months) have noticed how many people on here call one another by their real name in threads... Outta curiosity more than anything,,, why do yall do that?,,, I, personally since I don't use my real name here would not appreciate someone i knew from here using my real name on here if they knew it ,,, and some do (and yes i appreciate that they do not use my real name here)... If they wanted to be known by that name then wouldnt they use it??? I know many have ppl from here on their instant messengers and can then understand them callin each other by real names on those things if that is what they choose but why on here???
My question is....why does it bug you? I dont care what people call me and I dont care what anyone else calls anyone else either.
Amen to that, sister. I agree, people should use forum names instead of real names. Or use their own name as their forum name.
I agree with you, as if I wanted to be called by my name on here I would either of registered as that or sign off using my full name. It is also rather confusing at times as a name is put on the screen and I often sit and wait a bit for a reply as I am not sure who it even is. I think many times "people" do this as an intimacy type of thing and a clique.....life be like that. I have found that many also do it when they are in a tough spot with someone as it gives the illusion of imtimacy and the safety net of maybe calling off the counter..
i'm just really really cliquish and wish to be seen as such. of course, it could also be that through chatting i get used to calling someone by their given name. the screen names are somehow more meaningful to some people. they wish to hide behind what they've considered to become a more accurate symbol of themselves, something more interesting than they really are. i never really understood that maudlin mentality.
That I find humurous in that my screen name is my nick name and has been since I have been 12.....so I have been called Heat longer than by my given name by most people other than in business. If I know someones given name then it is a matter of respect to me that I do not use it in a public forum rather than hiding. In an email or a IM I would use their given name but in a chat room I would not....I would respect that they do not use it on a medium and not do so. Now isn't posting fun.
well, i've never used any names that weren't already given to me in the forum, publicly, so in using information available to everyone, i don't know what the big deal is.
none, until you wanted to post it was an issue with hiding rather than possibly and issue of respect and privacy that goes with respect. No issue with me.....lol
as for your question interval,,,, it doesnt BOTHER me, I was just curious as i do believe I stated in my original post, however that is as far as i will go with you on that subject... and heat i agree with you in what you stated,,, right down to the nickname thing,,,, my two names I have ever used as nicknames on here or in chat or im are both names i have been called since i was knee high to a grasshopper... as for the cliqueishness thing,,, well won't go further than saying,,, tis something veryyyyyyyyyy evident in these forums, i spose as it is in real life and specially when those involved generally have the mentality of 12 year olds... take it as yas wish folks,,, just my 2 and1/2 cents worth is all
never did see what's wrong with cliques. you either get along with someone or you don't. as long as the clique doesn't go out of it's way to insult and degrade other people what's wrong with having a crowd? it's not like anyone here is flipping superior to anyone else, unless they make a point of calling themselves flippin' superior.
i aint goin any further on that subject kc,,,, to each hteir own opinion n i respect it ,,,,, whether i agree with it or not .... and again aint what i posted as the topic so why take it where it wasnt meant to go in the first place,,,,,
actualy i would prefer to be called by my real name, which is why it is in my signature. its kind of weird caling someone by their forum name i think. for a lotta reasons. for example, someone on here named pink floyd, and we all shine on. hey pink floyd, your pretty! just dont sound right... hey we all shine on! neither does that. i think it makes the interaction experience a little more real when you know someones name.
I MEAN NO ACTUAL DISRESPECT OUTSIDE OF ACTUAL IRRITATION AT A POINT I FOUND TO BE WITHOUT SUBSTANCE OR SENSE. BUT I DID NOT BRING UP CLIQUES, MERELY CONSIDERED IT TO BE FAIR GAME. fuck, caps lock, i'm not retyping it, it means nothing.
I brought up the clique thing so the comments are mine I suppose to take....and it was not meant as a negative or disparing thing. No matter what, when you have people that feel they have a common there will be a clique form out of that...... You chose to take that as a disparing comment it was not meant as one and simply an observation on human nature.
well, i know your comment was not directed towards me specifically, heat. but i just wanna say i am a part of NO clique on here.... but, there are people that ive met, or connected with, talked to a lot, etc... that it comes natural to call them by their real names. anything else would seem weird to me.
hmmmmmm? i use peoples first names, but not always. i only use the ones that have let me know what their first names are. I see nothing wrong with using them, especially if you chat with them on MSN or some type of other messenger service. like trish said sometimes it just feels natural. as I always say, to each their own.
anyone here for any length of time develops a connection with certain other members here, the group grows, shrinks and changes or doesn't. but i do get mightily tired of people insulting other people's mentality or intelligence.
Why is this even an issue?? If you only want to be called by your forum name than never give out your real name. If ya want to tell people what your real name is why should that be a problem? All seems kinda trivial to me....
