so yesterday i was at mcdonalds with a couple buddies of mine just minding our own buisness. i go to the bathroom to take a piss and something catches my eye. sitting on the urinal is a million dollar bill. i look over at the other urinal and there is another one. now im trippin on acid for a good 2 hours by then so i was questioning the reality of it. im washing my hands and there is another bill on the soap dispencer. i show my buddies the bills and we take them thinking itll be a cool souvanier(sp?) since they are obviously fake. i flip over the bill and on the back was a good 500 word essay in tiny writting about how im going to hell for lying and stealing and killing people and shit and that i need to repent, etc. i also notice for the first time that ronald reagan is on the front. this really pissed me off. im sick of being bombarded from all sides constantly to covert to christianity. and the fact that reagan was on it throws a whole nother image of the people who did this. they couldve put any president but they chose reagan. they are obviously those ultra conservatives who idolize reagan and want him to be a saint like my cousins do. why do you christians feel the need to force me into your religion at every chance i get? cant i piss in peace?
I, for one, find apologetic tracts to be quite interesting. I have a collection at home. If you still have them can you scan it because I would love to see it and read it. What I fiond interesting about them is that people are able to (or try to): 1. Sum up an entire faith, and try to fit it onto a small piece of paper. 2. Attempt to catch people into accepting Chrsit (a simple way to salvation), and then hitting them with legalistic rules later on. 3. That people acctually put faith that these will convert people OR that these acctually DO convert people. I can't really think of any more reasons why I find them interesting, but I do. They are a literary genre all their own just like the Gospel genre or epistle genre of text. They follow conventions and rarely go beyond specific guidelines when describing the belief system that they represent.
There were people on campus last year handing them out, and someone asked me certain questions about my beliefs on Jesus. I just said that I was Buddhist and hoped that would shut the guy up. Instead he handed me one of the bills, like I was in need of "salvation." I was slightly offended until I read the fine print. It was pretty damn funny and it reminded me why I don't consider myself as a Christian. I ended up taping it to my door for a laugh. Peace and love
sorry i dont have them. me and my other buddy decided that they would look a whole lot cooler as a pile of ash...haha
i remember 1 year at a hemp ralley, i was passing out these flyers that said somethijng like 101 things every parent teacher & child should know about marijuana they were written very fairy from both sides of the issue without all the misleading lies. so anyways, i'm passing them out, with great reactions from parents, teachers, basicly everyone who took a momment to read them... then along comes this hunched over miserable looking man, he takes 1 reading the title very slowly..till he gets to the word marijuana... his eyes go huge.. spitting as he screams the word marijana.. then...jesis man i'm a born again cristian..& throws it at me..& out of nowhere, like he had a spring loaded dispenser in his sleeve comes a flurry of these your going to hell panthlets & he disapears runnin in fear i guess he skipped over the parts of the bible about using gods name in vain..& about god giving all the herbs & plants for us to use but i really found it funny how quickly these pantlets appeared, litteraly showering me out of thin air..like asuperhero combatting sin with silly papers... i was dumbfounded..i sat there looking at the top 1 ...huge letters..you are going to hell... & all i could do was laugh when someone hands you a paper saying your going to hell.. ... thank you just didnt seem like the appropriate responce...lol it seems to me they cant possibly be doing it to invite others to join them..not with such an alienating confrontational thing lke that.. they must be inviting conflict, inviting arguments.. to reinforce the notion of being persecuted for theyre beliefs..to feel moraly superior.. do they walk up toother cristians & hand them panthlets saying your going to hell? if theyre meant to draw u into the faith, wouldnt giving them out amongst themselves be reminders to keep the faith? but thats not the purpose at all..they wannastart an argument so they can get to that all important point where ..like children they can dance away in ignorance singing im going to heaven your going to hell..i win u lose..im so much better then you..drowning out the doubt they felt istening to sensible arguments & opinions yashoulda left the bills on the tiolets, & taken apiss on em..leave em thee as a contant reminder of what u think about em...& a pretty appropriate smell as well
There were always people on Bourbon St. handing out pamphlets on how everyone is going to hell, especially the people who indulged in alcohol (Duh, what else would do in New Orleans?). I always used their propaganda to insulate my frozen daiquiris and keep my hands warm. Peace and love
I know those, they are usually in front of my favourite music band's concert.. NO, DONT GO IN THERE, IT'S THE MUSIC OF SATAN. bladibla Lovely to see them wasting their time trying to "save" my soul, a nice gesture for sure, but I think it is quite hilarious.
Because most of them believe that you really are going to hell and it's their job to emulate christ, therefore their job to prevent you from going to hell.
All this stuff seems pretty weird. Here in the UK were mostly atheist or believe in things like karma and so on. I would honestly just laugh in someones face if they told me I was going to hell for not believing what their religion wants you to believe. I don't need someone to tell me a load of shit out of fear and paranoia of what happens when they die. Honestly. Christianity is dead in many places and is dying. It's raped the cultures of the world and has been used enough to justify bad things as gods will. Any religion based on fear is utter shit, designed to keep you in line and obey. My 2 cents.
it was similer but with reagan on the front. and soaring eagle, i would have pissed ont hem if i had thought of that, but i had just emptied my bladder so i just burned them
