i have been trying to understand jim morrison for some time now, and i used to think from varius things he said and his lyrics, that he wanted everyone to rebel and be theirselfs. but after seeing the doors movie, int he beggining while hes in college his film seems to show that he supported dictatorship and belived hitler and such to be masterminds. pherhaps he wanted us to rebel because he thought he would gain power in the end?, what exadtly does he think? if any jim morrison experts out there could help me out, i would appreciate it.
alright im gonna hold my thoughts on your comment jim morrison was an incredible thinker and poet and you cant truly understand anything he stood for until you have reached a certain state of mind pushed past the ego ~in jungian terms and just set yourself free his film wast supporting dictatorship he was going against conformity and capitalism and it was his 'protest' in a way against dictatorship his wasnt fully of this world and no one can truly understand him unless they can get inside his mind and think the way he thought read some of his poetry he published a couple of books and just release yourself from this world all the biases and prejudices that we all as humans have then maybe youll get him more ~peace
had to change this cause i justed missed the post above me, lol. anyway he was definatly interesting and the only way i feel you can understand him would be to live and talk with him, but since he died we're just gunna have to geuss based on his writing:sunglasse
what a cliche "i want to sound smart" answer. Jim Morrison was very talented, and very metaphorical.....your taking those images of dictators too much at face value.....
The Doors movie was highly innaccurate and to be honest a bit rubbish. I am a totally deovted Doors fan but i still think the film sucks its very stereotypical and i dnt think it tells the story properly. I think 'hippin life' was correct in saying that to understand him would be to live and talk with him and even then you wouldnt truly get it. Dont try to hard to figure jim out he was a fantastic poet and its best he remains a mystery! *Ellie* xxx
Morrison was a talented poet and his songs are good. they're better than your velvet underground crap.
it doesnt matter how genius and metaphorical he was, he was still DEFINATELY a drunken bafoon... a drunken baffoon who's done steal'd my heart. the story of how he died made me chuckle a little, even in its tragedy... he snorted a line of powder heroin because he thought it was coke... when they found him, his friends freaked out and put him in an ice bath...
another example of the movie being inaccurate, since it has never been revealed how he died since the doctor who pronounced him dead and Jim's girlfriend were the only ones recorded to of seen his body. She od'd not long after Jim and the doctor has never agreed to an interview on the subject (if he hasnt yet passed).
yes the doors movie was very inaccurate. even the way the audience looked, and the shirts they all wore.
Just what the fuck do you know? I doubt you've been listening to The Doors for even a few months. He was not a fantastic poet. And just what do you know about music? The Doors have done nothing for music compared to the Velvet Underground, except for bringing keyboards more mainstream and incorporating classical and flamenco styles into rock... neither of which were done by Jim Morrison. to be continued..
well i guess by reading the book 'riders of the storm' by john densmore (drummer of the doors) might give you an insight of jim morrison as it apparently is all true in the book. And in some english paper im sure that there was a book that was going to be publised awhile back about how morrison could of died etc, obviously that book cannot be 100% correct but still, it could help understanding
But like I was saying, Jim Morrison himself brought nothing new to rock 'n' roll, and The Doors hardly were innovators. The Doors' biggest influences were Love and The Velvet Underground... Jim Morrison's influences for being who he was were Arthur Lee and Mick Jagger. I think it's quite obvious that he tried to copy their styles, but he was nowhere near as good of a writer as they were. The Velvet Underground were arguably the first punk rock band, nearly a decade before punk became big. The Doors also never did anything like "Venus in Furs" or "Heroin", or the entire White Light/White Heat album, which is miles ahead of anything The Doors ever put out. To say that The Doors are better than VU is ludicrous and Jim would agree. They didn't receive good reviews because they were too far ahead of their time... The Doors were going along with the psychedelia trend that was started nearly 2 years before the release of their debut. It has been said many times on these forums, and anybody who knows music will agree that The Doors are the most overrated band of the 60's. Jim Morrison was a drunk who wrote drunken poetry. If you want some good psychedelic poetry, check out Love, The Move's Shazam, The Small Faces' Ogden's Nut Gone Flake, The Beach Boys' SMiLe bootlegs, and hordes of other bands and albums. Pretty much every other psychedelic rock band that I can think of from that time had a better main songwriter than The Doors. They got famous because unlike many other bands, their frontman was fucking hot. sheesh... I need a life
i think he knew more than some of you give him credit for, he saw the dark side off the hippy generation, a genereration with no limits holds some horrible people, lunatics, killers. i think it definatly was a dark time, wether you agree or not im not lookign for critizism just some positive insight on jim morrisons thoughts, aims etc. thanks. p.s. anyone know the name of that song that was played for like a minute int he doors movie where theres like a high pitched ringing threwout the whole song in the backround, thanks its really been bugging me.
I love Jim. He was/is a very interesting, talented, amazing person. The Doors were the missing piece to my life....
Love's Forever Changes expresses this perfectly and more in-depth than I've ever heard The Doors do..
