The military deserved an "unequivocal" judgment on the legality of its action before troops went into battle, he said, although in the past such statements had not been needed. "They were entitled to have a clear view. They weren't to be put in the position of being sent off, maybe it is, maybe it isn't lawful'. Asked why he left it as late as 13 March to issue a definitive statement that war was lawful, he said that was when the military had sought a "yes or no" answer. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8481759.stm Goldsmith admits to changing view over Iraq advice BBC comprehension skill -10 Well to be fair, they have a narrative to continue with I guess.
Because the United States of America is a permenant member of the United Nations Security Council thus has the ability to Veto any resolution.
Well through the UN anyway, and although it would seem steps or measures should be taken against the USA for some of the illegal international intervention... would anyone really win anything from Economically starving the USA. I mean, the other superpowers massively rely on the money flowing in from the states, just as much as the USA relies on the goods flowing from them. Maybe anyway =/
Countries can make their own economic sanctions, they don't need to be UN involved. But America basically falls into that too big to fail category of countries were businesses. Everyone does business with us. We are the home of a great deal of the world's multi national corporations and financial institutions, we are the top importer in the world which drives economies that depend on exporters and we are top exporting destination for 60 countries. Other countries literally can't afford to embargo us.
I didn't realise I posted this in America Attacks Seriously, CAN WE NOT MAKE THIS IS ABOUT AMERICA FOR ONCE? It was about Lord Goldsmith apparently altering his mind. I don't think he did. Heck, ok make it about if you believe the war was illegal or legal. I've not really heard may arguments either way, tbh. It tends to be: "The Iraq war was illegal. The end"
And Tony Blair up today…. Thing is nothing really that’s come out really wasn’t strongly suspected or very much known at the time. But remember the Conservative opposition and the right wing media went along with going to war. I think it was the Sun newspaper (Murdock press) that dismissed the UK’s biggest public demonstration as irrelevant seemingly on the grounds that everyone that didn’t go on the march was actively in favour of the war. Basically we have the same problem as the US we have a political system that is failing us.
This is one of those awful things - you're completely right. Silence is acceptance... and is seen as such by the powers that be. It's very sad indeed.
Yeah I'm making some time to watch it: http://www.iraqinquiry.org.uk/ (In your view) such as? Everybody had the right to make their own decisions and could make their own mind up one way or the other, right? I think so. But who cares? There were other newspapers giving the opposite view. You don't suggest newspapers should be a homogeneous mass with only one opinion?
