The kitchen sink

Its called a sink because it sinks into the counter. I relized this when I was walking to the store for milk.. Then I thought about the word milk... Why is it called milk and milking... Can you milk blood? Anyone else think about why we call things what they are?

OMG of course it's called a sink coz it sinks into the counter!! Now why didn't I ever realise that??
But why is the one in the bathroom called a basin??

LOL, I always think about origins of words...like all the time! It all started out that someone said politics means a lot of jerks or sth like that...I wouldn't believe it so I looked it up, that's when my obsession w/words started! Btw, the politics thing is not true!
