they werent around since my last visit...wish they were. they look like they specialize in darker beers.
Just finished drinking Upstate's Double, a double IPA out of Elmira, NY. This is one I had been wanting to try for a while. I picked up the one remaining can at my local beer store this morning. This is the first time, to my knowledge, this particular beer has been distributed outside the brewery. 7.7% ABV. Pours a light orange with a slight amount of haze and an initial two-finger head. Aroma is of pithy orange, grapefruit, overripe pineapple, an earthy, herbal dankness and some buttery diacetyl. Flavor very much mirrors the nose with a muted citrus and herbal hop profile coupled with some bready malts, bubblegum, and a somewhat unique but fairly pronounced buttery, diacetyl flavor. Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel and fairly restrained carbonation. Overall rating: A-
Drinking New Belgium's 2017 La Folie, a Flemish sour brown ale. 7% ABV. Aroma is of sour cherry, plum, green apple, faint citrus, some sweet caramel and oak. The flavor packs a sour, puckering punch upfront with flavors of tart green apple, lemon, sour cherry, currants and oak. Mouthfeel is light-medium, slightly sticky, and with a low to moderate carbonation. Overall one of my favorites from New Belgium, along with their Le Terroir, also from their 'Lips of Faith' series, which is a dry-hopped sour ale. I'll give this one an easy A.
Drinking Nugget Nectar from Troegs, an IPA that's released only once per year to much acclaim. 7.5% ABV, 93 IBUs. Pours a clear, clean copper / reddish-brown color. Aroma is of citrus (grapefruit, orange) and floral hops, honey and pine resin coupled with some caramel, biscuity sweetness from the malts. Flavor is well balanced between resinous pine and citrus hops, as well as bready, biscuity malts. Mouthfeel is light to medium, smooth and with a soft carbonation. Overall rating: A
Oh, hi! Been a little bit, but here I am wandering about again. Just throwing this post down so I can get to catching up in the thread in the meantime. So, as always, here's my paste... (Alc. 6.0%) Smell: Toasted oak curls it's smokiness right up to the front. Possibly some currant coming through with a distant raisin twang. A subtle soul of chocolatey coffee/toffee notes. Taste: Smooth, creamy, bitter chocolate and smoky oak. There's a distant twang on the palate, but more pronounced on the nose while sipping from the glass... possibly from the toffee. Overall, quite a pleasing brew. The smokiness doesn't overpower the bitter chocolate and it's fairly well rounded overall. There's a soft, bright note that carries through... but that's normal for a porter.
Honestly... I haven't even started catching up on this thread. But I am on my third beer now! (The first two were both the Einstok.) (And I spent my extra time joining Twitter.) (Yes, seriously.) (Hey, it's my RezDay... I'll do what I want.) So, here's #3... (Alc. 7.1%) Smells like: Musty (musky?) oatmeal, raw coffee bean, and bready/cracker scents all lumbering forth... promising good times. Tastes like: Coffee soaked oats with a hint of raisins. Retains the bready/cracker backbone. It seems to have a single metallic note in the background (possibly because it came from a can). Overall, it's heavy and begs to be sipped and not gulped. Comfortable, but strong... like the arms of a big bear. Tying into the name, it's a locomotive of a brew! I'm finding this brew very enjoyable. Also... here's a somewhat related pic to go with it...
I know I liked this, but I just gotta ask... are you laughing at my joinging Twitter or something else? (Hey, I'm not sober, I'm allowed to ask dumb questions.)
Yeah... over on the other forum I post my reviews on, I usually include a "related pic". I just can't show most of them here, lol. There's some really interesting ones over there! :lmao:
