Its not hard to notice the increased censorship lately, I just went to read another thread, the one about Robin Williams and the OPs video was removed from YouTube and it made me think of this topic.

FaceBook is now playing games so stories they don't like don't go viral, they don't even try and hide it anymore.

uhhhmmmm, as far as I know youtube is not news and neither is facebook, both are private enterprises and can do what the fuck they like concerning censorship,
so what is the problem again, besides your ignorance of how this type of stuff works.

uhmm, ok, equating youtube or facebook with "news" is asinine and mainstream media is much more trustworthy than youtube or facebook, and if you suspect the facts of a story, check them out for for yourself, it isn't that difficult.
why the hell haven't people realized that?

guess it's easier to imagine some nefarious plot with evil villainous characters pulling strings and manipulations behind our backs, it sure does alleviate a ceretain degree of personal responsibility to always blame some invisible boogy-man.

TBH, other than HF, FB is the place I get my news.

But have no fears!!! I don't believe a word of it and I only read the headlines.

There is no news as far as I'm concerned. Just more lies. Ones man promise is another mans lie and I've no time for it. :)

If it's BIG news, I'm sure I'll hear about it.

Because believe it or not, YouTube consists of citizen journalists who have cited their credible sources, and use footage from events that the MSM would rather you not see. Because they'd rather lie to you to push their agenda, than use principled journalism.

don't be so naive as to assume I do not realize and understand the value inherit in such "citizens viewpoints", but I am also intelligent enough to use discernment when considering the trustworthiness and credibility of sources, something you haven't yet exhibited with the sources you cite.

why do you quote asinine and bullshit stats/sources whenever the actual data is so readily available?
as I have stated to many people over the last few months, doing so only makes you look foolish.

People only reading the headlines (wether on FB or in a credible newspaper) is actually one of the concerns. If it was just you it would be fine :p

To the OP: the internet is great for all kinds of info, it is not that mainstream news has to fight back against the internet. But yes internet has a lot of impact on society and so mainstream news have to adapt.
The problem is of course that both stupid and malicious people make a lot of use of the convenience that the internet is offering. Why buy a boring newspaper if you can read or view stuff that's targeted to you specificly on FB or youtube

Legally, Fox News is not news, but entertainment and the courts decided they were perfectly within their rights to fire two reporters for refusing to lie on the air about an egregious public health hazard. It is the American people themselves who are destroying their own news outlets and their own reputations constantly fighting over who gets to run the country. While approval of congress has dropped as low as 7% in recent years, over half of Americans insist the government and mass media they call evil lie to them for their own protection. Twenty percent of the population are members of the Tea Party which has repeatedly threatened to bankrupt the government, refused to allow Obama to choose the next supreme court justice, and basically simply refused to cooperate in any way whatsoever with the rest of the country.

When everybody is screaming, nobody is listening.

The internet is only one dimensional for news source or anything else....and it is loaded with opinions and people twisting the facts to suit themselves.
Wise people look into many different sources for any truth.

The mainstream televised news media always tells the truth. Except for Fox News.

The 6 corporations who run those media outlets said so.

    Very witty and informative

What you're trying to do is ridicule the statement that those 6 corporations are entirely trustworthy (and only fox news is not). But who are you attempting to ridicule here? No one, because although people have stated the mainstream news (a gathering term, its not like every mainstream news paper or program is the same in regards to how truth full they are. It can even differ in such an organisation) is still informative and often spot on, nobody said they can or should be blindly trusted ;)

I think the internet is wonderful for news and the spreading of ideas. That's why China is so weird with it... My friend is a Russian immigrant and loves how much he learns online about everything. You can also look online at different publications from around the globe. I've read Russian news on the Orlando shooting. Really fascinating. Everyone reports news differently, and foreign outlets tend to be more detailed about negative details in American politics. Which I like. Balances the other information from US media.
    Also:
Mainstream media is still alive, but their websites are bigger parts of the brand.

Okay. That's all I have to say, lol. Scattered, but im on the toilet.

If I do ever read the articles I find the headlines are quite irrelevant anyway lol, or they just very misleading.

Like I always see "Trump does this or that" and then you read it and no he hasn't done anything at all lol.

I would like to see more independent internet outlets with the resources to hire investigative journalists

Mainstream media's advantage is they do have investigative journalists who are truly just trying to do their jobs and do a good job at that, but of course the disadvantage is that mainstream media is corporately owned so everything reported is going to be reported with the filter of any invested interest.

And of course most internet "news" is merely a blog posted by some opinionated asshole full of spin but with little knowledge of how to actually fact check and investigate a story

The Young Turks is probably a bad example because they arent just biased, they're overtly biased..but they are trying to move away from the pundit style shows they currently do by hiring investigative journalists to do actual reporting. I think this is the new frontier of news, hopefully we'll see more independent internet outlooks in the future doing investigative work.

The fact that you can now check them out for yourself is exactly how the internet is killing mainstream media, that lie by omission game the mainstream news always played got much more difficult for them.

Verison and T Mobil are both private enterprises, can they censor my words and texts when I am communication with people using my phone ?

How about applying the term public utility to social media, it implies that social media websites are public necessities, and, consequently, should be regulated by the government and protected by the 1st amendment.
