In my political discussions with those around me, I find that most people would consider themselves independent. They are middle of the road in many of their beliefs, and even willing to compromise on some of them if it meant creating a more peaceful nation. Why is it that so many people allow themselves to be polarized by the two-party system? Why should we have to choose between the lesser of two evils? We shouldn't have to choose either. Besides for the historical facts behind the creation and empowerment of the two parties, there is a theory behind there prevalance. The idea is that there are so many different types of people in America that it is impossible to create a party that everyone would agree with. So our government forces its citizens to make a decision, be compassionate or be secure. That's it. Conservatives aren't conservative, economically or environmentally. The liberals want change, but don't want to evolve themselves. This system doesn't allow for those of us who wish to move forward from this social drought to voice our opinions. Voting independent is as good as throwing your vote away. The republicans and democrats get all the spot light, advertising, endorsements, while the independent candidates remain vigilant in their right to stand out from the rest of the third parties. The people are to blame as well, but the politicians are the people we trust with the power to control our country, and they remain useless. They make budgets and squabble over social issues that are debatable at level of society. The government's duty is to serve the people, and ours is not. The entire system is enthralled with bureaucracy and fulled by money. The people in power should have the least to benefit from the decisions they make and those decisions should be quickly and logistically carried out. The people should be able to identify with those who make these decisions and there should be more of them. How can they possibly represent the american people accurately with a system that has been in place since the colonies? Like all things, societies go through cycles. Capitalism has about stayed its welcome in our country. It has made some of us very wealthy, some of us content and entertained, and others struggle to remain in the race. The middle class supports the poor, while the rich are taking their wealth elsewhere. I used to believe in trickle-down economics, but its hard to disperse the wealth when the rich are trying to get richer. Cost efficiency not only slows us down, it holds us back from many advancements that would help move us forward as a species. But instead we waste our resources on advancing entertainment technology to keep us occupied and wars to keep us from eating each other alive. Its time to think ecology over economy, because we can't stay a military super power forever. And the economic burden to support the military is taking effect on us all. That money could be well spent on social programs that pay for peoples education or train them in a skilled profession, the very reason why a lot of people are in the military. And we wonder why so many soldiers were opposed to going to war. They didn't join the military to fight, they joined to gain financial security. Something that a capitalistic society doesn't promote readily. And I am not against someone's ability to progress socially and financially, but that person should feel some obligation to contribute more with the means to do so. How many houses and cars are really necessary? And I'm not for supporting the unproductive. If you don't care, you don't matter. But so much of our resources are wasted on unnecessary things. And it is all about resources in the end, material and human alike. As a planet, we are an isolated system with a limited amount of resource and no significant means of reproduction of these resources as of yet. There will come a time where some tough decision have to be made, and the longer we wait to make these decisions, the more costly its going to be. Individualism and freedom are wonderful gifts that we have been blessed with. But like all things, moderation is needed lest you poison yourself. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are all gifts, not rights, and humans take them for granted like so many other things. Remember, eventually, the survival rate of everything reaches zero. And this society is not making any attempt to slow this process down. In fact, capitalism speeds the process up by allowing us to use our resources up at an exponential rate. Money is worshiped like a god, and it is a kind shepherd to all those in its flock. Money has outlived its purpose as a means to simply trade. It now acts as a means to reproduce itself, and had more value than things we can buy with it. A new system is needed, and will be in place in the not too distant future. The time value of money is ever dropping, and once again, if we aren't proactive on this issue, the outcome will be catastrophic. Economic crashes, inflation, riots, martial law, and then eventually a new system will be created to control the resources. And you need to understand that this path will lead to an unimaginably controlling government. One that will not be accountable. It is the duty of the people of a nation to dissolve the government in power if the people do no feel that the government is serving its purpose. Violence is never a good decision. It only wastes resources. But sacrifices must be made to make progress. We need to evolve as a species. We need to take the next step in evolution. We evolved physically, mentally, and technologically. Now its time to evolve socially and step out of this historically revolving political door. Its time to set realistic goals that benefit the whole and stop fighting over issues that are fundamental in nature and pointless to argue over. I believe a democrat will win the election because people are looking for drastic change. And they will find little of that in this system. It doesn't allow for drastic change because drastic change is scary. But out of the ashes of a decaying political system will rise a new movement. One that is united in its struggle to take the next step. A Human Party. The universal consciousness wills us together.
one thing about your post: The military budget is nothing compared to how much we spend on social programs, not the other way round. most of our taxes go to social programs, not in funding the military.
True. But if the money being spent on the military were redirected into social work programs, which is what the military has become anyways, the positive impact would be two-fold; economic and social. Also, a large portion of the social bill is medical, which some use as ammunition against universal health care. But the reason for such high medical costs in this country can be contributed to our economic system. In a free market, when the demand for a product is high and the supply is low, the price for that product will be high. And what product is more valuable than our health? The supply will always be low due to the nature of such a skill, but medical law suits lower the willingness of professionals to work on people. Not to mention raises their medical insurance rates which further raises medical costs. The medical care should be less economically influenced. It should be an altruistic profession in which there is an inferred risk. Any time you wreck your car or have work done to it, the car will never be the same and there is no guarantee that it will be fixed. You are a machine just like your car.
This is about resource management, including human life. As of the present moment, the world is like a major company with over two hundred managers, all with their own agendas. But it only takes a little logic to see that the good of the company is what is best for everyone.
