Has anyone read it? I want to know if its worth reading or not. I've heard its the best in the whole LOTR series.
I read it when younger, I was so into it I couldn't put it down and finished it in two days. Another great book, if you can find it, is The Prydain Chronicals by Lloyd Alexander It's like four books in one, plus short extras in the back that trail on from various parts of the main story. They should make a movie from it, I'm sure it would be great.
Yea! I read it when I was younger and thought it was really good. I remember some of my friends were reading it together or whatnot like they would decide how many chapters they would read each night and then discuss them the next day or something...I ended up trying to get in on that with them and they said they wouldn't wait for me to catch up...But it was so good that I ended up finishing the book while they were halfway through or something.... End of story ...It's excellent. Read it.
As a youth (of like 12 or so) I was completely bored by it and couldn't finish it. At about... 23, I couldn't put it down. Recently we were reading it to some kids. It's an amazing book.
The Hobbit is an excellent prelude to The Lord of the Rings. When you first start reading it you might think it’s just for children but it slowly builds until the end and when you finish it you want more thus The Lord of the Rings follows nicely. Plus there are things in The Lord of the Rings that refer back to the Hobbit that you won’t understand unless you’ve read it.
One of my favourite books. The writing style makes it seem even more surreal or, I guess, more like a fairytale.
it's a lovely book. though Tolkien's writing takes some getting used to. he's very...detailed READ IT! and if you're like me, you'll become a Lord of the Rings psychopath
I totally agree!!! READDDDDDDDD IIIIIIIIITTTTTTTT!!! sniffle me waaaaaaannnnnnnttttttttts morrrrrrrre my precioussssssssssssss ahem peace Delfynasa
I'm reading it right now. I was apprehensive about starting it because I had tried to read the Silmarillion before and it was so boring I stopped reading after 50 pages of pain, but the Hobbit is fantastic so far. I suppose I'm going to end up reading the Lord Of The Rings too.
It's not part of the "LOTR" series. Oi. It's alright. I'd rather read the Silmarillion. Don't get me wrong, wonderful fantasy, but it's... kid's stuff in my opinion. I guess if you want easy, kids's-reading... so ahead. If you want adult reading, something mature and thought provoking, read the Simarillion. Although after reading through the posts, apparently that's not the sort of thing people are looking for here...
I know that but now I know that Tolkien can be enjoyable to read so I think I'll read those as long as they don't turn out to be as boring as The Silmarillion. Hopefully the Lord Of The Rings will be a compromise between the two styles.
