A lot of sign up forms now put the major internet countries at the top of the dropdown. The theory goes that the UK is one of the biggest countries in terms of internet use but the U is a long way down in alphabetical order so people from the UK may get tired of searching for UK. T The same goes with Canada, Australia, etc. In theory people would rather just type in their country rather than choose it from a list because it takes longer to find united kingdom than it does to type uk but people from the uk may type it in different ways ie uk, UK, United Kingdom, Great Britain, Scotland, England, Wales. This would mess up the stats when the webmaster wants to find the demographics of his or her users.
