Which of the great sages do you think offer the kind of wisdom we should include in the Conscious Bible? They can be old masters, saints, gurus or new ones!

Some of the ones I would suggest are:
    Jesus Christ
    Buddha
    Lao Tsu
    M.K. Gandhi
    Timothy Leary
    Ram Dass
    Bob Marley

Those are the biggies for me. I could add many more, but these are to me, the great ones.

Once we get a list together we can start a thread on each, and discuss their teachings and what to include in the Conscious Bible.

Oh yeah, definitively, these great people have so much wisdom to teach us.

Maybe some writings by great philosophers such as Marx and Sartre?

Yup, Native Americans indeed have a lot and they're now open to passing it on. I'm currently reading Robert Roskind's book, The Beauty Path, which contains the wisdom of several tribes including the Hopi. It's excellent! It inspired me to finally do this and to focus on One Love as the uniting force.

So I definitely feel we as Americans desperately need to learn from the Natives how to live.

Did you know that all native (north) American tribal religions believe in One God? Yet, those who colonized this country believed they were heathens. In fact their religion is far more healthy for the human race and our planet. They were once a cooperative, non-competitive society that put the good of the tribe above individual desires. And there is now a new movement among Native Americans to reinstate the old religion and many of their young people are going for it. They're restoring pride in the old beliefs.

I'll post up a link to Roskind's book soon. In fact we'll probably start a little COOL bookstore soon (just links to Amazon).

So each of these sages is going to need their own thread so we can discuss their teachings in detail.

It maybe a non-traditional idea of sages, but there are many examples of sage-like wisdom in the music world - for example The Beatles, Galliano, Levellers etc.
I guess its all down to interpretation.

Good ones SvgGrdnBeauty! Most of those are on my list too.

How about discarnate entities? LOL! ;)

I'm thinking of ones like Ramtha (who was outstanding in "What the Bleep do we know") and Seth from Jane Robert's books.

Some of their wisdom has altered my view of reality...

They've said things I've never seen anywhere else!

We create our own reality, people! ;)

I envision special ceremonies (like a rock concert) to honor the great musicians of our time. The ones who pushed the envelope, turning entertainment into a visceral and spiritual experience. I'm referring to musicians like the Beatles, Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, etc. These pop idols are already worshipped by millions, so I think it would be a great idea to create a kind of ceremony to honor these musical "saints" who gave their all to their craft, their music a life-long inspiration to so many!

Imagine if we had a traditional setting like a gothic church, or even an outdoor setting like an amphitheater or a stonehenge type place, and we bring in the amps and live bands (or even a dj if no live bands available), and conduct a ceremony to honor their music.

I would expect such music to be a part of a number of COOL ceremonies.

Of course other types of music are more than welcome (let's not forget ppl like Ravi Shankar - great for meditation), sakuhachi, chanting, etc. There would be few limits on this, although I think some kinds of music might be too dissonant to many.

Anyone wanting to discuss anyone of these sages, just start a new thread, post up a quote or two that you feel encapsulates what their message for our COOL community.

Members can then discuss the sage and their teachings and relevance for you and COOL. I'll go do a couple to get things going.

Merlin? Fact or Fiction? (not that it necessarily matters). But it would be good if we had actual quotes from the dude. :)

Sorta like the problem with Socrates. Can't find a word the guy wrote, and perhaps he never existed.

Speaking of ancient Greeks, there's a few we might like to honor like Plato and Aristotle.

There is a book which dates from the middle ages by Geoffrey of Monmouth 'The Mystic Life of Merlin' - it doesn't tally with the Merlin of the Arthurian Legends, but it does contain some words attributed to him. Unfortunately,my copy seems to have gone walkabout.
