hell, my laptop is missing three KEYS. not the painted letters, the keys themselves. the touch pads underneath still work, but its uncomfortable to use that way and leads to other keys coming off eventually as well. i use an auxilliary keyboard to type most often. i like it, actually, because its a standard desktop keyboard which i prefer, and the touch pad mouse doesn't get me accidentally clicking in different places or accidentally closing windows when trying to type.

I actually own that one :)

And am typing on that right now (ibm Model M)

Yes, I am a keyboard snob.

Yes, all of my keyboards click

And, yes, when I have a good paying job, and all of my other things that I NEED to take care of have been taken care of, my first idiotic splurge IS going to be the das keyboard ultimate.

woah dave that takes me back. we used one on the family computer that looked identical to that model m or whatever years ago. it looked exactly the same. if that keyboard model has been around since the mid 90s or so, i'm sure its the same one. anyway, its nice.

i'm not the best typist, but i could deal with a paintless keyboard, so long as it still had the raised ridges on the two buttons. i can't even remember which buttons they are, but as soon as my fingers find those ridges typing just becomes second nature to me and i never have to look.

just checked, they're on f and j. weird how its all i need for my hands to know what to do to translate my thoughts into typed messages, but i can't consciously think of what they are or where anything else is (with a few exceptions...qwerty, enter, backspace, you know the big stuff)

Actually, the model M has been around since 1986.

well i had no idea how long it's been around, i just know when i used a keyboard like that. so yeah, thats got a really nice feel to it. i like my keyboard i use now fine, it does the trick...but it's got short buttons and they are slightly too light/sensitive

I hate those big bulky keyboards... I guess my hand are too little or something, they are always uncomfortable to me.

...also I"m too lazy to have to punch and move that far around on the keyboard... haha.

This is the one I used to have, using a laptop right now, so ya know... but I prefer the feel of this:

I have disproportionately long fingers. And I NEED the clickies, if I have dome switch or God forbid, membrane faggotry, it's all over.

129 for a keyboard with blank keys? I'm pretty sure you can go through and use some sort of acetone or something to remove the letters from the keys yourself and save an assload of money...

Or does that have some other ultra cool features?

I decided tonight I'm making the switch to a dvorak set up after techie mentioned it a couple of months ago. The tipping point was finding out that the world record holder for fastest typing uses one. I already push 100 when I'm typing from the head and not from something I'm copying, so this should push me up pretty good.

And with windows vista I can set up hot keys to switch between dvorak and qwerty set ups so that the other people who use the same computer don't have to make the switch too....
