In a nutshell, I'm disgusted and wondering if it's this way everywhere?

Used to be, not all that long ago, the local pot dealers were good guys who welcomed most anyone to their homes. The guy they got their weed off of didn't give a damn what they charged for it. Everybody got high and happy and made their profit and it was all good.

Now, it seems most pot dealers also sell anything else they can get their hands on, no matter how shitty. The money has gone to their heads and it has become a war of sorts between dealers. People worried about their toes being stepped on, people ordering their "people" around telling them what they must charge and how much they have to sell. People needing to have "clearance" to sell... And this is in RURAL WV!!!

The honor and happiness is fading fast and being replaced with something resembling organized crime or the mafia. People are being robbed and even murdered over weed. WHAT THE HELL!!!! These are just regular folks like you and me, not some stranger in a suit and tie working for the CIA, and not some drug gang in Mexico...

Add to this that those folks who are trying to grow for themselves and not even be part of the black market trade are subject to not only the possibility of being robbed or murdered, but being "jacked" by the cops, who ultimately "lose" the evidence (on the streets someplace). I shudder to think how many people have been "busted" and taken plea bargains when there is a good possibility that the actual evidence is long gone with the proceeds lining the cops pockets, and the victim eating a charge for something that can not ultimately be proved in court...

But my main gripe is with those "hippy drug mafia" types who think the adrenaline and the money are worth the risk to themselves and everyone they associate with. The ones who see every music festival and party as a business venture and not as entertainment. The money becomes everything because someone somewhere in the chain of command is holding the "mule" by an invisible chain. I've even seen a dealer giving an (ex) junkie his fix that he so desperately is trying to stay away from, just so the dude OWES him money and therefore will be his slave due to being in constant debt. To me that is just about as low as it gets along the lines of SCUM SUCKERS. Jeezus! All over selling some WEED??? And SHROOMS????? WTF!

The thrill of the drama REALLY ain't all it's cracked up to be. And the relatively innocent bystanders who end up with all sorts of problems because of some phoney with dreads trying to be a bigshot who they can't control.... PISSES ME THE HELL OFF!

There, I feel better. Any thoughts?

"These are just regular folks like you and me, not some stranger in a suit and tie working for the CIA, and not some drug gang in Mexico..."

People who are getting robbed and murdered during drug deals are not simple tokers. They're in deep enough that the money will motivate someone to do bad things to them.

Sadly, the bigger crime and problems comes with the bigger money.

I've found that at a very low level of dealing(only among friends), most slingers are still pretty laid back and happy go lucky. However, you don't have to move up the ladder very much at all to get into serious money and high stakes.

If the lowest level dealer is buying oz's and selling them as eigths to smoke for free, he is pretty small time in the money department. He likely can't get himself into too much debt or taken for too much.

BUT, the guy he's buying from is buying 1/4 pounds and selling the oz's. This person is dealing in $1000 transactions multiple times weekly. This guy only needs to screw up once or twice before someone is willing to smash his legs for the money owed.

After that, we're talking dealers of pounds and serious weight and $. These people look at it as a business. As an unregulated business, they tend to regulate in their own ways, which is generally not too hippyish.

So, the merry pot fairies, cheerily selling small baggies still exist, but the illicit nature of MJ means that dealing is a high stakes high money proposition. Anybody playing the game is running a risk.

PS- I read your other thread and it sounds like you're going through a lot of BS around this dealing and living situations. Sorry to hear it.

    goddamn the pusher man.

that phenomenon isn't happening so much where i live 'cept for urban gangs or with the kind of dude that likes to find a bunch of dudes to sell for him. still, dealers tend to be pretty shady. i sold pot way back in the day (6 years ago) and i prided myself in being the only dealer that wouldn't rip you off. unfortunately, it's a rarity. dealers get props from other dealers and friends for ripping off "morons" (you'll even see it here)...oh no, you don't know as much about drugs as me...i must be better than you.

there are a few that aren't out to rip you off or intimidate you, but they still have to deal with that paranoia from doing something illegal constantly and that definitely changes their personality. and you're lucky if they don't have the drug dealer ego. the i'm so awesome because i sell drugs attitude is just plain stupid.

Since the late 80s there has been extensive propaganda through music and movies to lead anyone engaging in any sort of illicit trade to believe that they are straight-up gangstas who gotta strap and should spend their money on hos and bling. People grow up with these role models, and then they try to fit themselves to it. The more aggressive push the more peaceful out, and next thing you know, we really do have marijuana dealers shooting each other over a half ounce of weed. And they all think they're Scarface.

It's clever and evil and very effective.

I guess this should be a lesson to young and up-n-coming dealers. Things can get nasty real quick. And personally, I don't want to SUPPORT this kind of stuff! I'm not really into smoking a bit of weed that someone DIED over... Are you? Or doing what SHOULD be a spiritually uplifting sacrament that was stolen at gunpoint by some creep... Well, it happens a lot. It's some real B.S. and nobody with any honor should be supporting that game. But I don't figure most folks really even give it a thought as they toke up.

My best advice would be to get more in touch with where your stash is coming from and if you think it's got some bad energy attached, find another salesman... The only way to deal with the scumbags is to make them UNNECESSARY.

This has been a lesson for more than just the residents of this farm, believe it. This is turning into a lesson for a LOT of people in this area -- we actually had a meeting the other night.
We are working with a new concept that needs to start happening right away. BUYING CLUBS where nobody is in it for the money, only the savings. Buying ONLY from real friends, And SHUNNING of people who bring drama and bad energy to the table for the sake of making a buck.

Seems like a lot of crap just to smoke a little weed, doesn't it? I just hope that more folks start thinking about this stuff soon, or the danger level is only going to go up. Which gives the cops and all more support for their so-called war on drugs. After all, if people in rural WV are actually being murdered over a pot deal, that just proves that pot is BAD. Right? Check this out. Some shit, huh? http://hurherald.com/cgi-bin/db_scripts/articles?Action=user_view&db=articles_hurherald&id=35307

You see, the kids, they listen to the rap music, which gives them the brain damage. So they don't know what the jazz is all about.

Although I agree that the calibre of people you sometimes encounter on deals is ridiculous, it is all due to the criminalization of pot. Making pot legal would make the shady dealers unnecesary.

Buying Clubs are a nice idea. I would definetly buy form someone who was in it just for the love of sharing the herb. However, I don't really see people lining up to be the broker of large quentities of pot without a significant financial incentive. Within the buying club, everyone might be in it for positive reasons, but the person who is growing or supplying is still taking the huge legal risk.

I totally agree with DECRIMINALIZING weed. And yea, at least that part of the drug drama would be less. Thing is, a lot of folks can go to a FRIEND to get the weed for their buying club. And if it becomes an issue for the club, the guy who goes and gets the weed for the club (hopefully someone different each time) could get a little extra nugget tossed in for their trouble. If everyone takes turns taking the ball and running with it, it all equals out...

Sure, you can think that. Maybe Rap is the cause of every other problem in the world, too.

I'm not saying rap is the cause of the problem, nor that gangster movies are. However, the fact that a generation of young men have grown up in a culture in which violence and greed are seen as normal, masculine behavior is, in itself a tragedy. That many of them would respond to growing up that way by using violence in pursuit of illicit gain is not really surprising. People will try to live up to an ideal, whatever ideal they're raised with.

Unfortunately, freedom of speech works both from the bottom up and from the top down...most effectively from the top down.

young and up and coming drug dealers: don't mess with ghetto dealers or clients. don't mess with anyone addicted to hard drugs. don't sell anything that's not natural. don't rip people off. and if someone rips you off, let it go. be a true hippie.

that's all i have to say about that.

Ive always had to worry about shady types when dealing with this sort of stuff... As far as I know things have always been that way, maybe not out in the boonies, but in the city most definitely... It's illegal, but people must be regulated in one form or another... My dad has stories from back in the 70s and 80s when the mob was huge around here that belong in a movie...
