:toetap: Sen. Charles Rangel (D) head of the ways and means committee is going to introduce a bill to reinstate the draft! He thought he'd have better luck with a democratic congress.

Ha! If he gets this bill passed, everybody will just be wishing they had a republican congress!

I'm neither republican or democrat so I could care less.

Everybody thinks the democrats are so great and already we have warmongers in congress.

:toetap: Rangel said " If you want to invade Iran, If you want to invade North Korea how are you going to do it? With a draft."

He also said " If the US had a draft when Bush invaded Iraq they probably wouldn't have invaded because the families of the politicians would be at risk of the draft."

    Is this guy on Drugs?

Another case of fat old men sending young and able men to their deaths.

fact of the matter is: we need grass roots politicians who don't recieve millions from corrupt lobbyiests and corporations. its stupid to think the democrats would save us, I agree, but its not wise to say "everybody will just be wishing they had a republican congress!" either. I hope people start looking at 3rd party canidates more.

I am no great fan of Rangel (his recent tirade against Hugo Chavez is a good example of why), but there is a bit of political strategizing behind his call for a draft. His bill would remove most exemptions and deferments from draft eligibility, and is intended to make sure that the sons (and daughters!) of the rich would have to fight along with kids from the inner cities. If congress members had to worry about THEIR kids getting killed rather than just hiding them away in ivy league colleges, maybe they wouldn't be so quick to start or support illegal wars?

In the end, it's all just grandstanding anyway. He knows that a draft law has no chance of passing, so he can call for one without actually expecting it to pass.

[IMG]The bill won't even make it to the house, Nancy Pelosi smacked down the bill and said they wouldn't even vote on it! Sooo there's not gonna be a draft.

Sorry to say guys I have seen this coming for a long time!! Too many wars! Too many dead! No one joining it all equals DRAFT!!!!!

I don't live in the States and am thankful I don't I have a son that could be drafted if I did. I would get his ass out of there so fast he wouldn't know what hit him.

Charlie Rangel served in the military. He won a bronze star in Korea. And he has made this stand for a long time. And it makes sense when you think about it. Want to gear up the war machine then be prepared to put all your sons and daughters at risk..

maybe its time he dusted the old steel helmet off and go for a nice walk around the streets of baghdad, fighting in a war doesn't give you the right to send other people to war.

He voted against the war. Why not send Bush and Cheney and all those that voted for the war.

maybe he can take them with him

you can't have it all, proposing a dangerous bill at a time when incompetents and malcontents rule the roost is counter productive.

You can't have it both ways either Guy. You elected a dumbshit psuedo cowboy to office he started a war he can't finish with the army he has...what do you suggest?

You going to buy more troops?

Charlie Rangel opposed this stupid war, and he brought up the need for reinforcing our military before all of you gungho flag wavers gave your drugstore cowboy the go ahead. But most of the American public doesn't watch C-Span or keep informed, they just like to follow what they see as charismatic leaders. If you'd had half a brain or been informed you wouldn't have bought in the WMD, or allowed a war simply to spread democracy...what sort of bullshit is that? It was Saudis that manned the airplanes that took out the towers and the pentagon, how many times do you have to read that. What sort of sanctions have been taken towards the Saudis?

Well where have they lead you? And how are you going to get your kids out of the hole they've been dropped in?

i never vote for idiots nor abide by them
that way i can have it both ways

i warn people before about voting these idiots in. when the idiots start doing ultra stupid things i leave the country and leave the idiots to stew in their own mess.

what ever you do , you do to yourself.

proposing stupid things that have any chance of passing when a stupid leader in control is misguided enterprise. if the draft comes - go on holiday.
