I agree. I was just defending Biden, after he made that statement about differences between African Americans and Hispanic Americans. There are plenty of differences between people from Arkansas and New York. They are both Americans. I didn't feel that Biden was being racist or malicious. The Republicans didn't waste time attacking Biden after that speech. And the irony is that they wouldn't react in a similar fashion had Trump made a much more racist statement about shit-hole nations.

Trump officials are looking at potential options for Trump to repurpose previous coronavirus aid money into unemployment benefits, the type of approach he used to fund his border wall with U.S. taxpayer money.

Trump Prepares to Bypass Congress as Stimulus Talks Fail Again

    excerpt:

"Lawmakers on Capitol Hill said they were bracing for the president to act unilaterally to reinstate supplemental unemployment benefits in some form, possibly by invoking a law that governs federal response to natural disasters like hurricanes. Administration officials have suggested that Mr. Trump might seek to repurpose funds that Congress allocated for coronavirus relief this year that have not yet been spent by states or federal agencies."

The revised NAFTA finally went into force in July, and Trump on August 6 reinstated aluminum tariffs on Canada.

Playing electoral defense, Trump claims Biden opposes God

    excerpt:

"Barely one month after a new North America trade agreement went into effect, Trump announced his intention to reimpose 10% tariffs on aluminum imported from Canada, saying that United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer has advised him the step was necessary to defend the U.S. aluminum industry. However, the move also sets up the possibility of retaliation against U.S. companies and producers.

“Canada was taking advantage of us as usual,” Trump said."

While Trump visited Whirlpool in Ohio, he said he was reinstating aluminum tariffs on Canada.

The effect of the tariff war will be to raise the cost of items manufactured by Whirlpool which will likely be passed on to consumers.

Canada answers US aluminium tariffs with its own

    excerpt:

"The US Chamber of Commerce is warning that a decision to bring back the tariffs could raise costs for US manufacturers.

Myron Brilliant, head of international affairs for the industry group, told Reuters the move was "a step in the wrong direction" and that the measures are opposed by US aluminium manufacturers.

In late June, a group of 15 aluminium executives sent a letter to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer calling for continued tariff exemptions for aluminium in North America.

They said they had government data discounting a "surge", and argued that current import levels are largely consistent with historical trends.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently said he believes a new levy would have "no justification".

Canada's Chamber of Commerce said the "tariffs were the wrong instrument when they were first imposed in 2018, and they remain the wrong instrument now"".

    The Mind of Donald Trump
Narcissism, disagreeableness, grandiosity—a psychologist investigates how Trump’s extraordinary personality might shape his possible presidency.
    Mark Peterson
    Dan P. McAdams
    June 2016 Issue

    The Narcissist

    excerpt:

"As the social psychologist Jesse Graham has noted, Trump appeals to an ancient fear of contagion, which analogizes out-groups to parasites, poisons, and other impurities. In this regard, it is perhaps no psychological accident that Trump displays a phobia of germs, and seems repulsed by bodily fluids, especially women’s. He famously remarked that Megyn Kelly of Fox News had “blood coming out of her wherever,” and he repeatedly characterized Hillary Clinton’s bathroom break during a Democratic debate as “disgusting.” Disgust is a primal
response to impurity. On a daily basis, Trump seems to experience more disgust, or at least to say he does, than most people do.

The authoritarian mandate is to ensure the security, purity, and goodness of the in-group—to keep the good stuff in and the bad stuff out. In the 1820s, white settlers in Georgia and other frontier areas lived in constant fear of American Indian tribes. They resented the federal government for not keeping them safe from what they perceived to be a mortal threat and a corrupting contagion. Responding to these fears, President Jackson pushed hard for the passage of the Indian Removal Act, which eventually led to the forced relocation of 45,000 American Indians. At least 4,000 Cherokees died on the Trail of Tears, which ran from Georgia to the Oklahoma territory.

An American strand of authoritarianism may help explain why the thrice-married, foul-mouthed Donald Trump should prove to be so attractive to white Christian evangelicals. As Jerry Falwell Jr. told The New York Times in February, “All the social issues—traditional family values, abortion—are moot if isis blows up some of our cities or if the borders are not fortified.” Rank-and-file evangelicals “are trying to save the country,” Falwell said. Being “saved” has a special resonance among evangelicals—saved from sin and damnation, of course, but also saved from the threats and impurities of a corrupt and dangerous world. Trump appeals to an ancient fear of contagion, which analogizes out-groups to parasites and poisons."

How Has Donald Trump’s Mental State Affected His Presidency?
What we knew about his psychology four years ago, and what we know today.

How Has Donald Trump’s Mental State Affected His Presidency? - The Bulwark

    excerpt:

"Hungry for attention, he subjects us to a constant stream of scurrilous tweets, false accusations, rank divisiveness, unhinged conspiracy theories, blatant racial innuendos, shameless denials of reality, reflexive self-pity, unbounded grandiosity, puerile insults to real or imagined enemies, and claims of superior expertise in a multitude of areas where his abysmal ignorance is manifest. His sole concern is for himself."

Playin' your white card again, SIx? So reassuring that you can insult people of color by saying that "they're playing a card" but that you have the power to tell them they won't lose it by voting for their preferred candidate. Do you think this cartoon is clever?

Of course they forgot about eye protection, open sores, and the fecal oral route; flushing toilets and that the virus has been found in every cities sewer system, but give them another 6 months; several thousand of them can't be expected to do everything

    But wait, there's more

It took three New York Times writers to write what they didn't realise was a pro Trump article

TikTok Said to Be Under National Security Review

If you need to know who CFIUS is:

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS, commonly pronounced "Cifius" /ˈsɪfiəs/) is an inter-agency committee of the United States Government that reviews the national security implications of foreign investments in U.S. companies or operations. Chaired by the United States Secretary of the Treasury, CFIUS includes representatives from 16 U.S. departments and agencies, including the Defense, State and Commerce departments, as well as (most recently) the Department of Homeland Security.

Bi-parrisan support a month ago it would seem....until Trump said something

"(CNN)The Democratic and Republican national committees warned their staffs about using the Chinese-owned app TikTok.

The Democratic National Committee warned Democratic campaigns, committees and state parties Friday to take additional security precautions when using TikTok."

So you didn't watch it then

Beeee....cause one of the sound bites in that video is 'Death is way down from where it was'

Which is true, and whoever made the video tried to be clever, whilst any halfwit knows, yes Deaths are way down from what they were

But don't worry, those field hospitals in Florida, they are almost finished thinking about whether the should start talking about thinking about building one maybe

Just saying that nobody can take away anyone’s color card regardless the way they vote. So there be no disses or insults being thrown here.

LOL, everything offends liberals these days

But equally dishonest. No African-American in his right mind would believe that Trump has their interests at heart more than Biden--no matter how hard you try to spin it.

Yes... I did watch it. Did you?

It was a spoof video of Trump interviewing Trump. Did you think there was vital information there?

The US has problems many highlighted on this forum – the thing is who is offering solutions?

Inequality, racial division, the power and influence of money in politics none of those things are going to be dealt with by Trump or those in society that support him if anything Trump’s time in the white house has exacerbated those problems, his tenure has made a an already bad situation worse.

Biden would not have been my choice, he seems to be from the conservative wing of the Democrat Party not the more progressive ones. But hopefully the progressive’s hand will grow stronger in upcoming elections, remember how the Tea Party radical pulled the Republican Party further to the right well my hope is that the Progressives can pull the Democratic party so the left.
