Gardner is the Republican incumbent senator of Colorado and is facing challenge to retain the seat in 2020.

Gardner told Trump to exit the race when the Access Hollywood recording emerged (grab them by the pussy remark).

Trump and Gardner have since become allies. It's a story similar to Lindsey Graham who was highly critical of Trump before the 2016 election but is now best friends with him.

Gardner and others want to ride the coattails of Trump but not be soiled by the toxic waste of his dismal behavior in 2020.

With The Senate Race Down To Gardner Vs Hickenlooper, Where Is The Republican’s Path Forward?

    excerpt:

"Sen. Cory Gardner is in an unusual position heading into November 2020.

He’s an incumbent underdog. He has long topped the list of most vulnerable Republican senators up for re-election. And he’s one of two Republicans running this year in states that President Donald Trump lost in 2016.

With Colorado trending ever bluer, Democrats are banking on flipping the seat to get one vote closer to gaining control of the Senate. But many aren’t ready to discount the Yuma Republican just yet.

The non-partisan Cook Political Report has listed the seat as a toss-up, in part because the demographics of Colorado are changing. It’s getting younger and more progressive.

“The bottom line is that Colorado is a state that is moving farther and farther away from Republicans,” said Jessica Taylor, Senate and Governors Editor with the Cook Political Report.

Republican political strategist Josh Penry said Gardner will need to stress his accomplishments and “say, ‘Look, I’m back there and representing Colorado and I’m doing a good job.’” The Gardner campaign has focused on that in its ads thus far — from help with the state’s coronavirus response, including praise from Democratic Gov. Jared Polis, to the BLM headquarter move to Grand Junction.

Penry said this race is far from a slam dunk for Democrats."

Arizona, Michigan, and North Carolina are three more U.S. Senate election battleground states in addition to Colorado.

Polls are showing close races in four Senate seats in the 2020 election.

Trump's popularity in MI has waned since 2016 which he won by an extremely narrow margin, making it more difficult for a MI senate candidate to try to ride what remains of his coattails.

Democrats lead in three key Senate races, CNBC/Change Research poll finds

    excerpt:

"In Arizona, Democratic former astronaut Mark Kelly leads Republican Sen. Martha McSally by a 53% to 44% margin, according to the CNBC/Change Research poll. The senator, appointed to fill the late John McCain’s seat after she lost a 2018 election in the state to Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, has consistently trailed Kelly in polls.

Meanwhile, Democratic Sen. Gary Peters of Michigan — one of the few Democratic senators facing a strong Republican challenge this year — holds a 49% to 42% edge over GOP Army veteran John James, the survey found. While Trump narrowly won the state on his way to the White House in 2016, recent polls have showed a challenging environment in Michigan for both the president and James.

In North Carolina, Democratic former state Sen. Cal Cunningham holds a 51% to 41% advantage over Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, according to the CNBC/Change Research poll. A RealClearPolitics average of recent polls shows a much closer race for the Senate seat."

You just reminded me of the two Trump supporting Republicans I overheard at the local truck stop. After spending a half an hour griping about Obama and the Democrats, they started talking about their health. The first said to the other that he had been to the doctor for constipation. The doctor it seems had given him sample suppositories and said, " Use these for two weeks and come to see me again." The man went back to the doctor and complained, " Damn it Doc, they're just terrible to swallow." With shock in his voice, the doctor asked, "You took them orally?" The man responded with, "What the hell did you expect me to do? Stick 'em in my butt?

Trump continues to make misleading claims about the coronavirus to try to dismiss it.

When the President's own medical advisers refuse to correct his misleading claim, the coronavirus trust gap grows

When the President's own medical advisers refuse to correct his misleading claim, the coronavirus trust gap grows - CNNPolitics

    excerpt:

"While Hahn urged Americans to follow the guidance from the CDC and public health experts -- noting that if they do not follow the guidelines from the CDC they are putting themselves and "your loved ones at risk" -- he did not delve into the statistics that better explain why the President's 99% claim is so misleading.

The US case fatality rate from coronavirus stood at 4.6% on Saturday when the President made the claim, according to Johns Hopkins University data. The CDC estimates that a third of coronavirus cases are asymptomatic, but that does not make the disease any less threatening since people with mild or no symptoms can pass the virus on to others.

Beyond that, the World Health Organization has said that 20% of all people who are diagnosed with coronavirus are sick enough to need oxygen or hospital care. And cities like Los Angeles, Houston and other parts of Texas, Arizona and Florida are watching their hospitals fill up with Covid-19 cases as the virus spikes in those hotspots, once again raising concern about the availability of intensive care unit beds."

Trump has been selling slavery and racist attitudes for some time now. His followers have accepted his not so covert message. Now they have started to damage statues, after the anti-racism BLM protestor have do so with the heroes of slavery. The latest is an attack by the right wing extremists and Trump supporters in New York where the memorial of Fredrick Douglas was damaged. Douglas was an abolitionist. Too bad Trump supporters don't know what an abolitionist does, huh?

Trump is in the league of Truman in the context of trying to be elected with job approval rating near 40%.

Trump's Job Approval Rating Steady at Lower Level

    excerpts:

"The latest results are based on a June 8-30 Gallup poll. While Trump's overall job approval rating is essentially unchanged from the prior May 28-June 4 poll, it does show some improvement among Republicans, from 85% to 91%. However, the current poll also indicates the president's approval rating has dropped among independents, from 39% to 33%, as well as among Democrats, from 5% to 2%.

The current 89-point difference between Republicans' and Democrats' ratings of Trump is the largest partisan gap Gallup has ever measured for a presidential approval rating in a single survey. Trump had previously registered 87-point gaps in late January and early February polls, conducted around the time of his Senate impeachment trial and ultimate acquittal."

"The drop in Trump's job approval rating puts him in the company of George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter -- the last two one-term presidents, who also had sub-40% approval ratings in June of their reelection years. Earlier this year, Trump's approval ratings were closer to those of George W. Bush and Barack Obama at a similar point in their presidencies, the last two presidents who won a second term."

Republicans are questioning whether holding an in-person convention in Florida is worth the political risk.

Due to the surge in coronavirus cases, the mayor of Jacksonville has mandated face coverings in public, what Trump has discouraged, as the city prepares for the convention.

POLITICO's Election Forecast: Trump, Senate GOP in trouble
Trump's falling political fortunes have tilted the electoral map in Joe Biden's favor and made battlegrounds out of more Senate states.

POLITICO's Election Forecast: Trump, Senate GOP in trouble

    excerpt:

"But the race for Senate control is now close to a coin flip. Democrats now have discernible leads in Arizona and Colorado. Retired astronaut Mark Kelly has consistently outpolled appointed Sen. Martha McSally in Arizona’s special election.

After winning last week’s Democratic primary in Colorado, former Gov. John Hickenlooper begins with a lead over GOP Sen. Cory Gardner. Gardner is a skilled politician, but he’s running in a state where Trump won only 43 percent of the vote in 2016. While the forecast is currently leaving the race in the toss-up column, Gardner is in extreme peril.

In Iowa, GOP Sen. Joni Ernst is no longer a significant favorite to win a second term. A Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll last month showed her narrowly trailing Democratic nominee Theresa Greenfield, and the race is now a toss-up.

Also joining the toss-up ranks is Republican-leaning Montana. Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock has earned high marks for his handling of the pandemic, and even polls that show Trump with a solid lead in the state have Bullock leading or tied with GOP Sen. Steve Daines."
