There is a phrase in Britain "the dogs bollocks" which means "the best" or "the greatest". The term "bollocks" normally has negative conotations in the English Language. Usually a person will say "thats bollocks" meaning rubbish, or bullshit. "he dropped a bollock" meaning "he made a mistake", or "give him a bollocking" meaning "tell him off" or "shout at him". Bollocks is another word for testicles. and Normally, we would not think of dogs testicles as being something prized or great. It is a mystery as to why people use the term "thats the bollocks" or "thats the dogs bollocks" to mean excellent or great, but they do. A humerous angle is to say "that's the mutts nuts". can anyone suggest why we use the term "dogs bollocks" to mean something good???
its because the dog spends all his time licking them, the dog loves his bollocks, they're the greatest things in his world or he wouldn't be licking them all the time, hence the dogs bollocks from his point of view S
we say "thats the shit" in reference to good things here in the states. I imagine every country has odd things like that.
