I read it a few months ago. I thought it was okay, but it didn't blow my mind like I was hoping. The story had an interesting concept, and I really identified with it, but Kerouac's writing style just really annoys me. I hate how he writes run-on sentences that go on and on and on for like, a paragraph. And he has this weird ability to take a day and a half's worth of events, and smush it together into a sentence. I don't know...hard to describe, but I liked it okay. He didn't become one of my favourite writers, however, as I was hoping.
dharma bums would be very boring at times and incredibly beautiful at others. it does leave a lasting impression on you though, as I remember it I'm filled with a joy for life.
I just borrowed this from a friend earlier today. I was very impressed with On The Road, but I hated The Subterraneans because of its odd writing format. Any opinions of this one?
The dharma bums is a good book if you ask me, I would recommend it to anyone. It makes you want to live a simpler life and appreciate things more. Read it and you will not be disappointed. : )
love kerouac, he was really popular with the beatniks and the hippies in the 50's and 60's. marlon brando was a fan of kerouac. hippiewise angel
i liked dharma bums better then on the road i plan on buying dharam bums soon awesome awesome book, but both are classics books
The Dharma Bums was really good, I enjoyed it. I love Kerouac's writing. Although, Dharma Bums had an odd writing format, which made it a little hard to follow. At least for me, anyways. Great read, though.
Dharma Bums got me interested in buddhism. I love how the characters live their lives without being totally controlled by a religion. There's a sense of self discovery associated with their travels which reflects their innermost thoughts and feelings. More importantly, it made me re-evealuate what I value. Cool book which makes you want to hitch the country
i loved this book. i borrowed it from a friend of mine and got into reading a few of his others, i must say i liked it more than on the road.
