I dont know if im the only one,i dont want to be blasted as its only my opinion... Look at the 80s ===) The movies were pretty good, the music was very good and the commercials good also!! > people also were more free than now... Now its boring enough, the music sucks for the most part, quality is horrible,etc..... Our kids will talk to their kids in the future about Ja Rule,Christina Aguilera and N'Sync?? Oh give me a break please! And what about the movies, its only remakes of GOOD MOVIES or other crap, hardily anything good like we had then... Clothes are made like crap now,FEEL AWEFULL,etc......... Im glad im not a young one growing up with the garbage of today,i am happy i was young in the 80s when it was MUCH BETTER AND HAPPIER!!
"back in my day" "grumble grumble grumble kids these days grumble" There's lots of shit movies from the 80's, we just don't remember them, because people forget shit. There's lots of good movies today, you just can't expect real winners all that often. I'd say from the last 20 years, there's a lot more than 20 absolutely stunning, wonderfully done movies.... 80's music sucked dick, it was all about dumbing everything down, it's largely responsible for the shit state of popular music today. And still, there's huge amounts of wonderful music today, of all genres. Much of it is even available free and LEGALLY on the internet, as bands try to build fanbases. From techno to bluegrass, there's lots of great music being made. Plenty of shit clothes and other stuff today, and this is because YOU, the consumer, buy the cheapest shit you can. Pay more money for nice stuff made in the US, hell, make your own...... It's out there. Our freedom is in serious danger today, but it was in the 80's, too.... the war on drugs was younger and the CIA was, as today, intentionally fueling crack/heroin addiction, so that other law enforcement agencies could smash down the fronts of "suspected" crack houses with mini tanks... There was no LEGAL way to torture you in other countries, but the CIA didn't care about a legal way, they're the CIA and have always done whatever they please. We waged various proxy wars in the 70's, and then in the 80's, pulled out ALL aid, causing the jihadist/extreemist movements that we face today. No..... the 80's was the mainstream backlash against the 60's, a time of pure regression, an when the initial cheapening of much of american society happened.
No..... just like all the other things like music and movies, and just like in the 80's, if you're not willing to look a little to the left of the cheapest, lowest common denominator walmart shit, that's just what you'll get, walmart shit. There's all sorts of stuff if you're willing to look. I dunno where they make em, but I wear levi's........ Never pay more than 3 bucks a pair, can pick em up at any thrift store and most yard sales. Shirts are shirts, 50 cents at the thrift store for your pick of T-shirts, and all manner of button shirts from the last 50 years for under 3 bucks each..... What the hell more do you want? But if you buy new, just pay a little more than the cheapest that there is, and you can get nice things made by people paid a living wage. Besides, 80's was king of nasty uncomfortable silly clothes.....
there was culture in the 1980s? i thought all of that died in 79 when raygun conspired with khomani to screw carter. actually ok, yes, the internet culture was born in the 80s. from 77, the dawn of the personal 8-bit era, until the internet went public, sometime after 85, i don't know exactly, i was out of touch for a decade from around then until the mid 90s. the 80s is when electronic music, started coming into the popular and classical music mainstream. not when it started existing. modular analog synthasis was around in the 70s and oddities like the therimen and things done on main frames only big media could afford even before that. what else was in the 80s? san francisco moved to portland oregon, seattle, and elsewhere, you know, the spirit of haite ashburry and the heart of the 'hippie movement'. what happened in the 80s? people got tired of disco, that had stagnated stylistically. those are all the entertainment side of culture. the anthropological side, people got angrier. the middle started to desolve. corporate crime stopped keeping up the appearnce that the people were in control. helped along by ragun era making too big to fail possible. and anti-unionism, that in combination with corporate replacing mom and pop retailing, reduced the real middle class that had been the overwhelming majority of the population from the 40s through the 70s, to amost a fantasy myth of the past.
I Am Proud To Say I Have Enjoyed Every Decade Of My Life, Regardless Of How Aweful Or Awesome Fashions And Music Now Appear In Hindsight.... Cheers Glen.
TV commercials weren't as numerous and lengthy in the 80s. TV news wasn't focused on personalities (Anderson Cooper ...) to the degree that it is today. Syndicated reruns were more plentiful. You have to pay for the DVDs nowadays. So the TV was better. The 80s was a nasty decade for politics, and mainstream culture became more conservative and plastic.
The 80's - Race Riots, Football Hooligans, Men with perms and make-up, Flourescent socks, The Falklands War, Margaret Thatcher, Yuppies, The Pet Shop Boys - all in all a crap decade. Wake me up when the 90's revival starts up.
The 80's were a trip! The world was changing so fast. Everything wasnt great. No jobs, high taxes. New age was different and kinda cool. I think was reverting back towards 60's and 70 's music. Hated glam bands. Heavy metal was alright. TV was better. Shows about somewhat middle class people. The Iraq War sucked. So did Tinneman Square massacre. The Berlin Wall falling was good. Computers just starting to happen. I feel like I grew up in a transition era. Lots of major changes. Cars went from carbs to fuel injection. Robotics were starting. It seemed better in that cops didn't hassle you as much. It seems like there weren't near as many cops then.
But what is "reality"?? They say our minds make up this so called "REALITY" and im wondering if its true because I WOULD LOVE USING MY MIND TO MAKE IT GOOD AGAIN AS IT WAS IN 1984!! Going to arcade, roller skating,etc.........
The 1980s, although a time of relative youth and early family life was underthe regime or Thatcher and the culture of Greed is good, do unto others and self-centred attiude of lifestyle for me was most uncomfortable. Today times are similarly tough, though the difference is my age. I am still not happy Good job I have faith in the youth, and that in due the values of care, consideration and working together will return - not bitter then?
the 80's sucked, but pop culture was much better, and overall, I'd have to say things were better then. The democratic party hadn't sold out yet. fuck the 90's up the ass
