Can someone follow all of the rules in the bible or are the rules in the bible set up to deliberately contradict eachother so that no man can claim to follow the rules of the book completely? Pretty much makes it impossible to follow every rule in the bible.
We are both familiar with complex decision making systems- sometimes a rule must be broken in order to preserve the main intent of the system- a sacrifice is made (which is "against" the system) in order to preserve the system.
so essentially, the bible is a manifesto of business... sounds about right. just goes to show, "rules" are meant to be broken...as are "commandments". to prove what??? "Nothing is true, everything is permissible." ~ Hassan i Sabbah
As per the archaic definition of business: purposeful activity. I wasn't necessarilly refering to the commandments. That is incorrect in this context. "A rule must be broken to preserve the goal of a system of rules" does not mean the same thing as "everything is permissible." It just means: there are conditions in which certain rules (such as "don't eat pork" or "keep the sabbath") do not need to be (and perhaps should not be) followed.
I think the contradictions in the Bible are commonsensical. For instance, common sense will tell you that "too many cooks spoil the broth" and that "many hands make light work." Logically, both statements are contradictory and yet at the same time true. It takes common sense to apply each maxim to a given situation. To do so well is to use good common sense. That is, to act wisely. The Bible speaks to our hearts. It is meant to cojole us to be our best in our very real, very concrete lives, with all their myriad details and specifities. Apply its wisdom to your life. And do so as wisely as you can. As for logic, clarity, coherence and so forth, leave such concerns to other pursuits.
sin isn't real dude, i mean shit, heres my life, i smoke cigarettes, smoke pot, drink, masturbate, fucking curse all the goddamn time, so much shit that are supposedly sins, i don't feel bad for them at all, the only time i feel bad is when i make someone else feel bad, and so if i was a christian i'd be sad all the fucking time!!!!
Just because you don't feel bad about doing something doesn't mean it isn't a sin. I'm not saying everything you do is a sin. That's no kind of logic. For instance if you have money and steal from people less fortunate than you is it wrong? Of course it is. Whether or not you feel bad about something isn't what makes it a "sin" in our Book.
What i think of as a sin, is anything you do to deliberatly make another person unhappy or sad, Like you say stealing for the less fortunate is a sin, well yes, it hurts them, makes their life harder exc. Murdering is a "sin" because your takin someones life away for one, and another your making someone close to that person sad.
Nope, it's your choice as long as it dosen't negatively effect another human being it's not a sin. It's your body, your mind, do what you will with it, painful or pleasent.

the short answer is no. nobody can keep the God's law perfectly. and the reason for that is that we are all sinners, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"(Romans 3:23) a biblical definition of sin is failing to do the things we should and doing those things that we should not. sin is anything that fails to meet God's standard of perfection. it is really a lack of something rather than being something in itself. So, yes it is impossible for us to keep God's law. It is our sin that is the barrier between us and God. sin can not dwell in the presence of God. There is no way for us to justify ourselves before God by our own good works or the keeping of his commandments. We have broken them and thus have already fallen short of his standard of perfection. This is the reason that God sent his Son to atone for our sins. Jesus Christ died a substitutionary death in our place and took our sins on himself. he was the sacraficial lamb for our sins. This is the gospel, God's call for us to be reconciled to Him through his Son Jesus Christ, a free gift extended to us, not that we earned. We can never make ourselves good enough by our own merit. As the apostle paul points out "Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses."(Acts 13:39)
None of these are 'sins' in themselves, with the exception of swearing. But I believe that is a matter of context. (I swear when I know no one can hear me, or one one who would take offence, or take it as a sign of aggression.)
I'd take the opposite view in relation to the Bible - it's the destination that is most important (salvation). The Bible isn't really the journey anyway - the journey is your own life, the word is just the map.
