I am thoroughly convinced that the best classic rock station is on Direct TV. It completely blows any ClearChannel station out of the water. I could care less about the actual networks on DTV, but their classic rock music channel is awesome. Here's just some of the songs that I heard the other day at work: Velvet Underground - Candy Says James Gang - The Bomber The Rolling Stones - 2000 Lightyears From Home Them - Baby Please Don't Go Pink Floyd - Free Four Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Diddy Wah Diddy The Amboy Dukes - Journey To The Center Of The Mind Led Zeppelin - How Many More Times The Zombies - Time Of The Season The Chambers Brothers - Time Has Come Today The Moody Blues - Question The Byrds - Renaissance Fair Donovan - There Is A Mountain Jimi Hendrix Experience - If 6 Was 9 The Who - Overture/It's A Boy Bob Dylan - Mr. Tambourine Man CSNY - Helplessly Hoping The Allman Brothers - Little Martha The Band - Up On Cripple Creek Derek & The Dominoes - Bell Bottom Blues The Doors - L.A. Woman Pink Floyd - Bike Steely Dan - Aja Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man The Beatles - Norwegian Wood Cream - Badge James Gang - Walk Away Jimi Hendrix Experience - Castles Made Of Sand It just doesn't get much better than that folks. Of course they throw in alot of the more popular songs too, but I've never heard any of those songs played on the Clear Channel station in Nashville.
Yeah, that does look really good. The "classic rock" radio stations around here never play those songs, save for the James Gang's "Walk Away." I wish I had a station like that to listen to.
I don't know about that. I listen to KBBZ out of Montana. Classic stuff! Stevie Ray Vaughn, Stevie Nix, AC/DC, they play it all!
wow thats really cool! in uk, we have digital radio and tons of stations, one of them is PlanetRock, which sounds like the same sorta thing, plus i havent heard them ever repeat a tune!! Jaz
I'm for anything that weakens the grip that ClearChannel has on American radio, in my opinion they are a monopoly that destroys any variety or local flavor that still exists in radio.
Yeah... I used to use AOL Radio when I had AOL... but AOL seriously went downhill... they were pretty good when they first started, but there's better companies out there... I mostly listen to radio station broadcasts on the internet. There's this radio show called woodsongs that I watch a video feed of every monday evening... they have people like Leo Kottke, Tommy Emmanuel... a lot of folk, bluegrass, and blue musicians... that isn't classic rock though... but they did have Roger McGuinn do a show on there.
Yeah, the one here actually does play "Walk Away" now that I think about it. I just included it cause it's a really good song, one of my favorites from the Gang
94.7 wcsx in detroit There not bad but are fairly repititous. Much better in the evening and night then during the day. And they simulcast little stevens underground garage!
It ain't free (no commercials - ever) but it's fan-damn-tastic...XM statelite radio. I can't seem to move the dial off of Deep Tracks. You might hear a repeat once a month, more by accident than lack of play list. And they tap into David Gans' Dead Hour once a week. When was the last time you heard Wishbone Ash? Steppenwolf? Yardbirds? Procol Harum? Early Genesis? When have you ever heard Leopard-Skinned Pillbox Hat by Bob Dylan? Yep, thought so.:X On your record player or what was that song by Bob Dylan?
jaz, clearchannel is the company that owns controlling interests in the feed that 99.99999...% of the radio stations in the states pull from. They decide what is played, when it is played, how often it is played. No option, no argument. If you don't like it, pay for the license to play what you want; not too many stations can afford that. An example: September 12, 2001, they sent all their stations a do not play list. They said it was a sensitivity issue; post-9/11 thing. On the list (and it was a long one) was Rocket Man by Elton John. I suppose you get the picture, no?
Our local, classic rock stations here in northeast Ohio are 98.5 WNCX, 97.5 WONE, and Y 102.9. They're not great, but they're not too bad. I rarely listen to them, though. They play too much late 70's, early 80's hard rock.
I just love our midnight - 3AM DJ. I want to be his groupie! Plus, I love the drunk hillbillys that call late at night.
Unfortunately, the station is long gone. But for seven years there was WCXR, a classic rock station out of northern Virginia that was bold enough to play 'deep' album cuts. Unfortunately, 'corporate interests' had to 'water down' the playlist in 1993 and the following year, they were gone. Since then, I have yet to find a classic rock station who comes even close to what the old WCXR was.
You'll need your sound card for this! http://209.206.184.247/kbbz Actual feed from KBBZ-FM in Montana. No fees or special players required. It's all FREE. This link will open Windows Media Player.
ahh yeah i see what clearchannel is. totaliterian.... ending up controlling everything that goes into peoples heads unless they fight for their own voice... i head about the 'list' that was issued after 9/11 too, i remember thinking how over the top it was. they banned "imagine" too, didn't they? *sigh*
100.7 The Bay is our classic rock channel in Maryland, I hardly ever listen to the radio though. But when I do this station is pretty nice.
