they did a great thing for the world i believe.
though their early music when they landed in the u.s. didn't sound like much,
not that you could actually hear it, for all the emo squeelers in the crowd.
but then they started doing strange interesting things
then they multiplied by going separate ways,
but each way sprouted another whole context.
and for a while everyone was trying to follow their yellow brick road.

well there were other things had my own attention all along
    but i did notice them.

same time i was in high school was when they were number one.
kennidy when i started high school, man on the moon not long after i graduated,
bettles in between. oh and 'nam, which was why i ended up in the air force,
to keep out of the clutches of the army.

then dr king, woodstock, and the long haired 70s.
saying never again to mccarthyism, until
raygun and the 80s kneejerk came along.

If I wanted to eat a banana, I would eat a banana :)

An old mate from uni once said "The Beatles are overrated". This became a running joke, and we'd keep dropping into our conversations "Well, of course The Beatles are overrated". I've got most of their albums on vinyl, I tend to listen to The Beatles For Sale the most.

Each of the last names of the Beatles has an adjacent pair of the same letter, even the former Beatle Stuart Sutcliffe. Now that's special.

It wasn't true for former member Pete Best. Maybe that's why they fired him. :)

The Beatles were a "girl's band" when they hit the states. Just look at the videos. Us guys tended to shun them and listen to stuff like The Animals, Dylan, The DC5, Kinks, Beach Boys, and the Yardbirds.

I didn't really appreciate them until Rubber Soul.

Looking back their older stuff is really good and everything from Rubber Soul onward is amazing. Such range, use of instruments, studio work, depth.....untouchable.
The greatest rock band of all time and one of, if not the greatest musical groups of all time.

Plus they had social and spiritual consciousness.
    Nothing is real.

I used to listen to Sgt. Pepper's religiously as a young teen. My friends and I would play it on repeat while holed up in my room.

Some sweet memories associated with those songs. :)

I was in Hamburg a couple of weeks ago, and walked down the streets around St. Pauli where they played very early in their career.

Now it's all sex shows and strip clubs.
