    Part Three:

    Juno, the Wife

Juno, the third asteroid to be discovered, represents a third stage of life. After the Pallas stage of going out into the world, possibly to have a career, one is ready to encounter one's equal and embark upon the journey of partnership that usually takes the form of marriage.

The glyph for Juno suggests a scepter, befitting the queen of the gods, and a flower, befitting her femininity. In general form, the glyph for Juno resembles that for Venus; but instead of the circle denoting Venus's mirror, there are outward-pointing rays, indicating that the seductive femininity of Venus is about to turn outward, bearing fruit in marriage and children.

    The Myth of Juno
In classical mythology, Juno, known to the Greeks as Hera, was wedded to Jupiter (Greek Zeus), supreme king of heaven and earth. As such, she became his queen and the Goddess of Marriage. In the myths of an earlier time, however, long before her meeting with Jupiter Juno was one of the primary great goddesses in her own right. As the only one who was his equal, Juno was chosen by Jupiter to initiate with him the rites of legal, monogamous, patriarchally defined marriage. As his queen, she became but a figurehead and was repeatedly deceived, betrayed, and humiliated by her husband's many infidelities. In the myths Juno was portrayed as a jealous, manipulative, vindictive, revengeful, and malcontent wife who, after tempestuous fights, would periodically leave her husband. However, she always returned to try to work things out one more time.

    Juno Within Us
In the human psyche, Juno represents that aspect of each person's nature which feels the urge to unite with another person to build a future together in a committed relationship. This partnership is sustained over time through a formal and binding commitment, whether it be a worldly or a spiritual bond. Juno speaks to our desire to connect with a mate who is our true equal on all levels - psychologically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

When we do not receive intimacy, depth, equality, honesty, respect and fulfillment in our unions, Juno speaks to our emotions of disappointment, despair, anger and rage, which can overwhelm us. This is especially true when we have given up a great deal, such as a career, family, home, or religion, to enter the relationship. The Juno in us makes us confront the issues of submission and domination, fidelity and infidelity, trust and deception, forgiveness and revenge. In her realm we find ourselves in power struggles for equality as we attempt to balance and integrate ourselves with another person and learn to transform selfish desires into cooperative union.

Within a context of separation and return, Juno encourages us to take the vow of "for better or worse, in sickness and health, till death us do part." She brings the wisdom that conscious relationship is a path to spiritual enlightenment, and the knowledge that relationships allow us to perfect and complete ourselves.

In today's world, Juno is also a symbol for the plight of battered and powerless wives and minorities; for the psychological complexes of love-addiction and codependency; for the rise in divorce rates as people are driven to release unmeaningful relationships; and for the re-definition of traditional relationships in the face of feminism and of gay and lesbian coupling.

To sum up, Juno is the archetype of the wife and partner who maintains her marital commitment to her husband in the face of conflict and struggle. In the birth chart she, along with other chart factors such as the Seventh House, represents your capacity for meaningful committed relationships, your attitude toward such relationships, and the type of relationship experiences that you need in order to feel fulfilled. She represents both what you need and what you attract, and she also signifies the ways in which you act out your disappointment over broken unions. These relationships are usually romantic in nature, but may sometimes assume other forms such as business, professional or creative partnerships.

If you are in a relationship, you may want also to determine the element of your partner's Juno. In general, fire signs are most compatible with air signs, while earth and water seem to form a harmonious pair. However, if you and your partner's Juno's are placed in challenging elements (for example, fire and water), the relationship is still workable. It simply means that you will have to make more of an effort to understand each other's needs.

Juno in the horoscope gives a good indication of the kind of marriage partner that we need and will get. Not the partner we think we want (those are ruled by Venus and Mars), but the one we need and actually wind up with. Let's get things straight here before we go into the details about Juno in your horoscope. Venus and Mars show what we consider to be our ideal man or woman. The 5th house describes the type of people we tend to get involved with romantically. The 7th house tells us the kind of person our first marriage partner will be (and the 9th house describes our 2nd marriage partner, if any). Juno works on a more fundamental level.

    Juno in the Signs:

Juno in Aries: The partner will tend to be fiery, aggressive, assertive, and active. Grass doesn't grow under their feet.

Juno in Taurus: Solid, stable, and of course stubborn describes this partner.

Juno in Gemini: You should never marry a silent type. Talk, talk, and more talk in a partner is what you need. It also helps if they are versatile and clever.

Juno in Cancer: You need a sensitive, nurturing partner. Careful though. If Juno is making too many stressful aspects, you will have to nurture them, and they will whine and complain endlessly.

Juno in Leo: No, your partner does not have to be in show business, but they will tend to have showy qualities, be creative, or be very playful. On the other hand, they may be arrogant, bossy childlike, or immature, especially if Juno makes some stress aspects. In any case, give up any idea of attracting a shy, retiring type.

Juno in Virgo: You need a partner who is efficient, works hard, and watches out for your health. All right, so they may be a little critical at times (or at all times), especially if your Juno has stress aspects (the square, opposition, and some conjunctions).

Juno in Libra: You need a partner who is charming, social, and has a good artistic sense.

Juno in Scorpio: The need is for a partner who is intense, strong, and a bit secretive. They definitely must be good in bed.

Juno in Sagittarius: The partner will tend to come from an entirely different background and may even be a foreigner. Even if the partner is not a Sagittarian, they may have Sagittarian traits. They may be involved in higher education or take frequent long trips, and they may talk a lot and listen only a little (if at all).

Juno in Capricorn: Your need is for a practical partner who is a good organizer and can help you in business. Don't expect them to show too much emotion.

Juno in Aquarius: You need a partner that's - well - different. They may be a genius, eccentric, or just plain insane (maybe all of the above). It may be the partnership that is different. Aquarius is a sign that is fanatic about independence and having enough space. A bi-costal marriage where the two people spend a good deal of time apart is a good situation for the Pallas in Aquarius individual.

Juno in Pisces: This one may be satisfied with an imaginary partner! If they happen to be married to (or living with) a real person, then they can use imagination to eliminate the partner's shortcomings and add virtues to taste. Please be careful not to marry someone because you feel sorry for them or want to "save" them.

somewhat, i would agree, but not entirely.

i read a great article on juno a while back and found her to be very unique in her own right. their mythology's are different as well, especially when you find their counterpart in different cultures mythologies: so somewhat same goddesss, different name, different attributes which reflect the importances of that culture: that is when you really see their similar spectrums being divided.

i suppose there is a reason why in classical greek and roman mythology; these two goddesse were described as very simliar, when you look at their patriarchal views of woman, (and much of classical greek and roman history is provided to us by men) there are not that many goddesses recongized in popular culture, we can see this in the standard planets used in astrology: only the moon and venus (ive read something about women trying to revive the lost feminine in the chart or someting)..and especially through zeus and his illustrious affairs and how he treated women....and how juno dealt with all of this. it says alot

you have a few or more extreme ...how do you say...archetypal woman 's" and then the many goddesse can fit into these ...you have the rebellious strong warrior, the beautiful seductruss, "and the brillant thinker" like athena or something

this is not so in other cultures as you find matriarchal socities, and even societies where woman are the bread winners

..please contradict me if you think this generalization is silly..... but perhaps this could explain why?

so instead of them being recognized for their differences their mythologies and aspects sort of coevolved (or the opposite of evolved: what is that word lol?) through time with varying views of the female and became more simplifed. look at the contrasting myths of lilith !

You should start a post on Lilith as I would like to discuss that more. I don't know anything about Lilith except she was the ex girlfriend of Frasier, and is in the shadow of the moon.

    alright, will do.

lilith was the first wife of adam who did not eat the apple and chose "feedom from domestication and men"

i actually just finished reading a fiction book on lilith called the "the wild mother" for a women lit class. it was so interesting.

lilith is prominent in my chart as the moon is 19'1'' and lilith is 19'38 taurus and they oppose venus conjunct juno. i wanted to understand this conjunction more when i first saw it.

therefore, because men couldnt control or subordinate her she was dubbed as an evil prostitue. silly men and their masculine/power complexes (not all mind) but in astrology a different light is shed.

Juno is Hera right? The wife of Zues? And lilith is not a real planet, just a shadow right? I did not know there was a Lilith in the Bible. pretty wild story so far.

Is she the famous Eve ? wife of Adam ?

If so, the Saudi people think her grave is in Jeddah city, actually saw that so-called grave, even said hello to her (in my thoughts).

    chiron - 4th house
    ceres - 4th house
pallas - 3rd house conjunct the north node
juno - 2nd house conjunct or near saturn
vesta - 9th house conjunct the south node/opp north node (south node is ALWAYS directly opposite the north node. therefore when you have a planet in opposition with the north node its conjunct the south node as well)
fortune - 6th house conjunct mercury. it deals with fortune therefore it would be outlandish to surmise that this means no money.
south node - ? you gave me the points 0.0 aries, however your chart in the two charts you posted on the website say: north node - 29 degrees sagittarius, south node would be 29 degrees gemini. oh well!

    right, maybe.

The chart & the Houses i posted in my last post are done by a software called Solar Fire delux, but the ceres, pallas, juno, vesta, fourtune, and south node are done by www.cafeastrology.com.

Maybe i did a mistake there concerning the birth time or date, will check it quickly, and come back now.

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble.

    see you

    Sun Opposition Ascendant.

    (http://www.astrologyweekly.com/astrological-aspects/sun-opposition-ascendant.php) :

In any event, the individual is usually 'fathering' others in the sense of providing some sort of identity for them.

Those with Sun on the Descendant can sometimes seem to 'give' their Sun to others, in as much as they give power to other people.

Specially Did like that: "Descendant-Sun people are proud of their partnerships. This is the type who, aged 70 or 80, can be found linking arms with their spouses and stating proudly that they have been married fifty years or so." It made me even feel little sad, that is very true thing about me. So think my Ascendent is true after all.

    It is quite romantic.

Anyhow, that site is good with interpretation of similar things.
