I completely agree with this sentiment. I also have yet to meet anyone who actually gives a fuck about the meaning of the holiday and whether or whether not we should celebrate it.
meat and beer and bombs, who gives a shit if there's more to it than that?? but i think it's about love for your country - to live and love america, it is easy to celebrate it!! it is a great thing to have a love for your home :sunny: i am a irish citizen too but i do love america atriot:

well i just joined last night but it shoudnt matter what i like or my sex what matters is what is in our hearts!
Once, when interviewing a 60s pop star during a July 4 show in Oklahoma, I asked about his being a British citizen performing on Independence Day. He stopped, turned his icy blue eyes on me and said, "You know that 'bombs bursting in air' part? Well, That was my great great great grand dad." So your side of the old war matters. I'm American by choice (I had a choice upon majority). I didn't make the choice lightly, and I often disagree with the government, and many of my county members. But I agree with its principles- an assumption of social mobility, The Bill of Rights, the idea that you can be what you work for. That also allows the space to explore counter to the culture ideas of many kinds. I can travel without papers (in theory- we need to stand up for that right), I can move where I want, work where I want if there's a job to be had, read what I want, sing what I want. (again, these are principles, if not how it shakes out) And I fell in love with the land itself. The smell of the Mississippi delta, evergreen forests and sulfur hot springs in Colorado, eucalyptus and redwood in California, Pinon smoke in New Mexico, newly turned soil in Kansas, sea spray in Maine. And there is something about some folks banding together and demanding representation if they were getting taxed. And I know a lot of good people that travel this country, bringing stories.
the only thing I dont lke about america is its not the voice of the people that matters anymore, the Federal Government makes all the decisions about the lives of the people. Let the states run the show and abolish the feds then the USA would be a lot better place.. A lot of people there are very ignorant though...but still, Merkah!!! Red White and Blue!!! Fourth of Julyyyy Motherfuckers!!!!
and i cannot set off M-80s without being a potential terrorist in the eyes of Leos, and if i blow up a firework, town ordinance says i can receive a fine.....
Whoa Check out what I found while inching along the tubes today.. more: http://forgingnewparadigms.blogspot.com/2011/06/july-4th-1776-was-deeply-symbolic.html Interesting read.
