I heard somehwere that THC is produced naturaly in your brain in small amounts and it is released when you are asleep and this is why you have dreams. I thought this was completes b/s because the C is Cannabolin right? So then why would they name it that if it was produced in your brain too and not just from the cannabis plant? Anyone else heard this?

No, THC is only made in Cannabis plants. There IS a chemical similar to (called an analogue) to THC, I don't know it's name though. I don't know if it has anything to do with dreams; no one really seems to know why we dream or what causes them (or why we sleep, for that matter).

ive read this on erowid. your brain naturally produces cannabinoids, but in small amounts, and not as effective as the real THC. I don't know baout the whole making of dreams part though. but theres another "pro-pot" statement... if your body naturally produces it... it obviously isn't as bad for you brain as people say it is.

i get to clear thigns up! w00t

endo-cannabinoids (ananadine was the first one descovered, theyve found some more with odd scientific names. and yes theyre called cannabinoids even though theyre found in the brain, because their chemical group was desovered in the plant first) are what your brain produces. they are fatty acids, and are not triggered when you sleep, but are triggered all teh time, and i spoke about these in more detail in another thread, i dont remember where.
the last Scientific american had an article on it, if anyones interested there, though its not terribly informative, it still is interesting.

DMT is another drug, which is also found in plants and in teh brain. it is the 'spirit' drug, and it is the one they believe is responsible for dreams, and sprirituality. its used in that drink that starts with A. it is nowhere near as commonly produced and used in the brain as the cannabinoids though.

endo-cannabinoids are analogues of THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol)
endorphins are the chemical analogues of opiates
DMT is naturally found in the brain in the same form as derivable from plants

    yay

(so yeh the fact that the body makes endorphins doesnt make for a good pro-smack arguement, so i dont think it would go that well for weed either ;))

yeah i know:( but if some people are naive enough to beleive most of the other bullshit going around, about how bad weed is.... we might aswell send some of our own bullshit too....(even worse idea, cuz, it'll prolly make us stoners look bad)

oh and serotonin is not an analogue of any used drug i dont think, it is a neurotransmitter which is affected by drugs (like cocaine, which inhibit the uptake of sertonin [your body keeps adminitering more happiness without taking back the stuff that was administered earlier, so you build up happiness heaps, and then.. you run out, and you feel like shit.])

The name of the primary endocannabinoid is "anandamide", named for "ananda", the Sanskrit word for "bliss".
