Ok, this is abit of an obscure question, so I am hoping someone here can help me. Anyways, what temperature is required for thc to activate? And at what temperature does the activated thc then break down again in to a molecule which is no longer psychoactive? I know it needs to be heated to be activated, but I know it can be heated too much as well...so I am just trying to figure out what these temperatures are? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well this is what I know or like everyone else here what I think i know THC (the holy canaboids) release at a temperature far lower than what pot burns at. I think a lot of THC is wasted by burning it in a jay or blunt.
THC doesnt have to be heated to be active. It IS active when it is still on the plant. It breaks down from extreme heat, or light
THC does have to be activated...if you eat raw buds, you will not get high. Heat is required, I know this. UrsusKind--You are right in that alot of thc is destroyed when smoking a blunt, or joint. I just want to know the exact temperatures for an experiment I am conducting.
of course you can eat raw buds and get high... you just have to eat more than usual.. also if you eat them in some fatty food heated or not heated it will work, you just need a few grams.. oh, and the THC vaporization temperature is around 365ºF
Yup Think is right. You can eat raw buds, but its not economical and not as effective. That is why I never hear of ppl doing it. Because THC burns at around 400, and the average lighter is up to a thousand, and a jet lighter at 2500, you burn so much plant material.
The question IS chemically proper. On the plant, THC is in an acidic form. The removal of the acid molecule is nessacary to get high. Lots of things can accomplish this to varying degrees; digestion and heat among them, with the latter being much more efficent than the former. So when dealing with fresh buds, it's best to heat the weed for a few minutes at 350F, even if you are going to saute it or put it in something relativly cool (like pasta sauce or soup). As for smoking fresh weed, forcing it to burn with high flame is not advisable; the presence of water will significantly decrease the temp, resulting in some melted but not vaporized cannabinoids. In case you don't know, the Merck Chemical Index contains accurate and proper temps and solubilities and such chemical info.
BOILING POINT: 392 F (200 C) @ 0.02 MMHG Check out the rest of the info for THC here I highly recommend not burning pot, just boil off the THC with one of these :sunglasse
geck-->what is the max temp before activated thc is oxidized in to a chem which no longer gets you high?
