I've heard lip piercings can damage your teeth and gums and I can understand why. I never really thought about it before, I just got mine pierced and I'm kinda worried now..... I've read a couple of threads and people have said they took it out coz of this, but how many of you actually care? Are you gonna just keep your piercing in regardless?

I did take my tounge ring out because I thought that it was begining to damage my gums. I'd like it back in but I don't wanna fuck with it again......I like my gums thank you.;)

^^^ditto on the tongue ring. Mine rubbed against the roof of my mouth and caused inrritation. Then I bit on the bar and slightly chipped a tooth. I eventually took it out(although I miss it).

Lip rings can errode gums/teeth because they're constantly rubbing on them. Most of the people I know with lip rings have at least a little scuffing on their teeth from it.

Its really a personal choice whether or not you should keep it. Although I really like lip rings, I've kind of made the decision that oral piercings are more trouble than they're worth. I'd say just keep an eye on it, and if it looks like its causing problems, take it out.

    Peace

well i guess its not worth having fucked up teeth over. but ive got a vertical labret, medusa and my tongue done twice and i guess at sum point their gonna cause some damage. but it's very rare that it's major damage, just don't bite it constantly or chew on it :) and try to where plastic bars, they cause a lot less damage than metal

My gums suck and my teeth aren't that great either. I'd like a tongue and lip piercing and will once I get some money. I really couldn't care less what it does to my teeth cause my teeth are annoying and not that pretty. plus I have an overbite so I'm already not very attractive. So yeah. I say do what you want but if it hurts or bothers you too much, it's your decision whether or not you take it out.

my lip ring (which is off to the side...mmm) often rubs up against my teeth, or i bite it sometimes which is really annoying and bad for your teeth, but i've had mine for about a year, and so far no damage done. Call me in a couple years though and i might tell ya a different story. As for tongue rings...i personally think they're disgusting all together, and a breeding zone for bad breath bacteria. lol...I think they're worse because of the roof of your mouth and i always see people biting 'em with their front teeth.

i have my labret pierced.. lot of people say that that can errode gums but mine barely ever rubs against my gums.... they make some jewelry to help prevent these situations now... also with your tongue being pierced and roof irritation usually means you have too long of a barbell in your tongue.... get a shorter one and you'll be fine

It all depends on the shape of your mouth. i got my lip done very close to the lip so from some angles you can barely see it (pouty lips see :p)
This is becuase i can tell any lower would rub my gum. Labret piercings are more likely to hit your gum because they are positioned closer. lip piercings are more likely to hit your teeth.

I occasionally get tooth ache from it because i suck my thumb so it gets pushed up against my mouth but most of the time its fine, ive had it about 2 and a half years now. But i ALWAYS slide it along my top teeth.

Toung bars aren't good. my friends had his about 6 years and the front teeth in his mouth are soooo worn downs its scary.

Also if you get your lip pierced get it done with a bar, if you do it with a hoop its likely to grow out a bit, your body pushes it up. This means the inside hole is higher, one guy i know has his on the side and when he wears a stud you can see the flat metal of the stud coming over his lip its risen so high.

these are pics of my lip one.
