Teenage mums smoking to make their babues smaller!!

Today all over the papers is has been said about teen mums smoking more to baby the birth of their babies easier - so they have smaller babies - some think it will even be pain free.
What are peoples opions on smoking while pregnant?

My views are that its totally wrong - why anyone would want to harm their un-born baby is behond me - why they would want a smaller baby, to have a baby with breathing problems - to have a labour which will have more comlications I dont know!!!!

 

I'm not even going to say it....I'll end up a LONG rant....ending in the statement "They should be shot"

Oh, that's smart. The slight decrease in physical pain they may get from having to push out a smaller baby in no way balances out the emotional pain, frustration and heartache they may have to go through for the rest of their lives trying to raise a child with complications that were so easily preventable.

 

Yeah, there baby will be smaller and then they'll die of complications from low birth weight.

 

What is wrong with these girls? Don't they realise how lucky they are to be able to have children easily, and then they go and try to ruin their health before they're even born?!?! WTF?!
I GAVE UP smoking because we're ttc, and willing to try anything to get pregnant!
Stupid kids don't deserve to have nature's greatest gift

 

The sad thing is it's not just kids. I've known older women who thought they would have smaller babies if they smoke. They don't even think about the poorly developed lungs of the baby or the clogged up umbilical cord, or the ear infections that child is going to have or the unexplained fevers. The problems are endless.

My mum smoked when she was preganant and we all turned out fine though

I can't believe the ignorance of some people! There are lots of teen moms I have seen doing stupid ass things, never thinking twice about what they're doing to their kids.
There is one sad story that comes to mind...
there was a girl that I went to high school with who got pregnant in grade 11, and she was running around telling everyone about it. She never made an effort to quit smoking and after all the excitment wore off, she was bored with it and did nothing but complain.
Then after her baby was born, she had some guy over and they were screwing when her baby started to cry. SHe bundled the poor boy up and shoved him under her bed. He died. I wanted to puke when I heard that.
Seriously, I think there should be "permits" for having kids sometimes....

 

My mom gave birth to me (7lbs 2.5 oz), my younger brother (7lbs 4 oz), and my youngest brother (4 lbs, 4 oz)...

She told me that giving birth to Jimmy (the tiny one) was like having dry heaves of the yoni.

 

I almost wish I hadn't read your post barefoot_kirstyn; that is just so sad. Sometimes I feel the same way about the permit thing.

 

This is an old thing. When my mother had me (she got pregnant with me in 61) not only was smoking "OK" but mothers were "forced" (according to my mother, who has never taken responsiblity for ANYTHING she has done her entire life, it's always something she was "forced" to do) to go on diets, so the babies would be "small enough to deliver without foceps." Maybe if the moms werent out of their minds on Twilight Sleep, they wouldn't have needed forceps 70% of the time.

Don't get ME started, either. My mother's entire generation and their "they wouldn't let me......" (insert whatever is GOOD for the baby or the mother.) ARGHGHHGHGHGGH!

 

i think its disgusting too. also when i was doing my child development class at school a few years ago we were told that for most people having a smaller baby was more painful to deliver as you have to work harder to push the baby out. where as a average sized to bigger baby is not as painful because the baby helps to push its self out. my mum also said i was the most painful to deliver out off all of us (there are 4 of us), i was 6lb 6oz & my two older sister & younger brother were all over 7lb 5oz.

 

Ugh, that's too bad. Maybe they should give up dairy and suger instead LOL

 

At this point, it's time to abort. I'm not sure how I feel in general about abortion, but if you have so little compassion that you don't care that when you give birth to the baby, it will at best be sicky and unhealthy for the rest of it's life, just terminate the damn pregnancy.

 

smoking while pregnant is despicable.
I have seen girls smoke and use drugs while pregnant but that was just because they couldnt be bothered to quit. i have never heard of then doing it so the birth weight is less. either was its just horrible.

 

Hmmm... I get the feeling that this story was fabricated to sell more newspapers. Why is it specifically 'teen' mums. Sounds like a bit of a moral panic to me.

btw, smoking whilst pregnant will harm your baby
